Position Title
Educational Multimedia Specialist
Position Summary
The Educational Multimedia Specialist participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary Educational Technologies team, supporting the broader mandate of the Centre of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (CTLS). The purpose of this position is to support the integration and application of various forms of media and technical tools in teaching and learning. The Educational Multimedia Specialist provides multi-faceted support and advice to learning designers, program faculty, and other users of the Centre of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship, through the incorporation of pedagogically sound learning tools and technologies to course design and classroom instruction based on evidence and best practices.
Position Responsibilities
The Educational Multimedia Specialist, under the direction of the Manager, Dual Credit and Flexible Pathways, and with the guidance of the Educational Technologies Learning Designer, is responsible for the following:
Lead the creation and adoption of pedagogically sound educational multimedia resourcesCreate and maintain educational multimedia resources, including: creation, production, editing, dissemination, and storage of original media
Ensure strong teaching and learning principles are applied to the creation of multimedia resources
Incorporate artistic, innovative, and creative style into all works while focusing on the needs of various learners and learning styles
Critically assess the impact of created educational multimedia on learning and identify appropriate electronic venues for these resources, i.e. Blackboard
Incorporate principles of Universal Design for Learning in the creation of educational multimedia resources
Teach, guide and assist RDP faculty in the design and creation of pedagogically sound multimedia resources and adoption of educational technologiesCritically assess existing educational multimedia resources and recommend modifications based on strong teaching and learning principles
Provide troubleshooting assistance for those developing educational multimedia resources to support various course delivery models (face to face, blended, online)
Provide technical and pedagogical advice to support faculty inquiries in person, through email, or with other forms of communication
Use appropriate knowledge and resources to answer questions related to Blackboard and educational multimedia
Develop and deliver technology focused workshops
Provide technology support as needed for learning studios and collaboration rooms adjacent to the CTLS
Demonstrate and apply educational multimedia standards and best practices to course development activities for faculty who are using flexible learning methodologies including online, blended and face-to-faceAssist faculty with areas of technology enabled course development including; formatting (ensuring consistent structure and design); the use of correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; efficient navigation through the course; and the use of educational technologies in their course
Employ RDP Guidelines for Quality Online Courses to online course development, guiding faculty in the implementation of effective practice throughout the development of quality online courses.
Assist faculty with course development, guiding the application of universal design principles to ensure accessibility for the course
Maintain e-media including social media channels and the website for the Centre of Teaching, Learning and ScholarshipCreate pages for the CTLS website and content for RDP Connect
Update content on webpages and RDP Connect in a timely manner
Create and update slider images that showcase information on the homepage of the website
Post relevant pedagogical content on the social media channels that adheres to the CTLS's mandate
Research and disseminate information related to developments in instructional media and designResearch trends and directions in educational multimedia and recommend best practices for creation and dissemination of these multimedia resources to various stakeholders
Collaborate with the Centre of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship and faculty regarding the implementation of strategies for instructional design and delivery
Provide leadership related to the incorporation of educational multimedia in teaching and learning, by: staying current with trends in educational multimedia and teaching and learning; and providing learning opportunities (i.e. workshops; print, electronic, and multimedia resources) for faculty and staff
Required Qualifications
Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or equivalent in B.Ed. with a focus in Educational Technology or Multimedia
Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience developing educational multimedia, preferably in a post-secondary setting
Demonstrated design skills working with design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
Advanced computer skills including proficiency in HTML, graphics editing, and coding
Fully fluent in the use of MS Office software and Google Applications
Demonstrated knowledge of lecture capture software, web conferencing software and SmartTechnologies
Experience applying educational technologies to learning with a pedagogical focus
Experience working with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard and D2L Brightspace
Proven ability to triage technical issues and troubleshoot problems
Experience in seeking appropriate solutions through effective questioning
Strong self-management and collaboration skills
Experience working on a cross-functional team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
