Our multi-disciplinary team of highly experienced educators have expertise with renewable energy generation, bioenergy, building performance optimization, advanced building design, financial assessment, and ESG. The heart of the Alternative Energy program is a technologist who is able to ensure that our up-to-date equipment and systems are in good condition for student learning, provide support to instructors and students during the labs, coordinate the health and safety of our program, and work with the team to future-cast our equipment needs. NAIT\xe2\x80\x99s Alternative Energy Technology Program, in the School of Applied Sciences and Technology, has an opening for a full-time Educational Laboratory Technologist. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and have a background that complements the courses delivered by the program.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating the operations of the lab facilities to ensure consistent, safe and innovative delivery of curriculum and research
  • Organizing maintenance schedules for equipment and instruments
  • Coordinating short- and long-term coverage of course preparation needs
  • Participating in training opportunities
  • Maintaining and updating standard operating procedures
  • Represent the program on the OH&S department committee
  • Assessing, recommending, and ordering equipment and supplies
  • Maintaining records and inventory of lab equipment and consumable materials
  • Overseeing the installation and commissioning of all new equipment/instrumentation
  • Maintaining and repairing instruments and equipment
  • Preparing labs and materials required for course delivery
  • Work with NAIT ITS to maintain computer systems and printers

Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Qualifications:
  • Minimum two-year Diploma as a Technologist in the Alternative Energy or related field. Journeyman certification as a machinist, mechanic or electrician would be an asset.
  • 3 years technical experience in an alternative energy industry (solar, wind, high performance buildings, or other)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License (or better) \xe2\x80\x93 driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unaided

Remuneration: $1,937.80 - $ 2,618.12 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
