About the Position

Reporting to the Educational Development Coordinator at the Centre of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI), the Educational Development (Ed Dev) and Learning Experience Design (LXD) Specialist works collaboratively with faculty and staff across the institution and other members of CTLI to enhance our innovative, human-centered teaching and learning environment.

The LXD/EdDev works collaboratively across a range of program and service units to provide vision and leadership in planning, developing, and implementing initiatives that support professional development and best practice in learning design for our instructors. This position might be right for you if you have a passion for faculty development and curriculum design and enjoy supporting faculty in enhancing their teaching and learning practice through the following:

\xc2\xb7 consultation and mentorship on scholarly teaching,
\xc2\xb7 curriculum review (quality standards) and design,
\xc2\xb7 instructional support and classroom observations,
\xc2\xb7 workshops, and
\xc2\xb7 collaborative cross-institutional projects.

Excelling in self-directed situations and having the creative confidence to forge new solutions to systems challenges are keys to succeeding in this position. This role also requires strong project management, decision-making, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills and the use of flexible approaches to adapt to our clients\' needs and comfort levels.

Empowering others in teaching and learning best practice

  • Partners with faculty to encourage growth in learning design; emerging teaching practices; educational technology; Indigenous ways of knowing and learning, and equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations related to teaching and learning
  • Plans and facilitates workshops, training sessions, and courses and creates resources in print and online formats to support instructor development
  • Facilitates dialogue across diverse and interdisciplinary stakeholders (e.g., faculty, staff, and community members) to ensure multiple perspectives are considered
  • Leads new teaching and learning projects, initiatives, and partnership opportunities
  • Champions and remains current in emerging teaching practices, including educational technology use, best practices in educational development, learning design, and SoTL
  • Collaborates with CTLI teams in designing tools to gather evidence on initiatives, analyzing data, and compiling summary reports
Learning design and quality assurance
  • Facilitates curriculum development and review at the course or program level
  • Applies instructional design skills, design thinking strategies, learning theory, and creativity throughout the program and course design process to meet diverse program and client needs
  • Adheres to universal design for learning standards
  • Applies instructional design skills, design thinking strategies, learning theory, and creativity throughout the course design process to meet the needs of diverse programs and clients
Indigenization and decolonization
  • Collaborates across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes, and support the Niitsitapi Strategy
  • Works with subject-matter experts to develop and pilot curriculum and professional development opportunities with Indigenous content, perspectives and pedagogical practices
Evaluation and monitoring
  • Completes needs assessments as required
  • Evaluates and monitors service offerings related to teaching, learning, and curriculum design to make formative improvements, identify impacts, and address emerging campus needs
  • Fosters a culture of innovation in teaching and learning through change and evolution of services and systems, brainstorms creative ways to solve complex challenges
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Education or related discipline required, Masters degree complete or in progress
  • Significant and successful teaching experience and facilitation skills are required
  • Experience and competence with educational technology is required
  • Evidence of professional development throughout career (i.e. portfolio)
  • Experiments with new approaches, leverages setbacks, and makes realistic assessments of risks and next steps
  • Approaches new tasks with a growth mindset and a willingness to collaborate and learn from others
  • Interprets and applies college and post-secondary policies and procedures
  • Shifts easily between two or more activities or sources of information; works on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and self-management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and attend to detail
  • Demonstrated time management skills, communication skills (oral and written), project management skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment as well as independently
  • Familiarity with Lethbridge College\'s values and culture and a commitment to work towards our institutional goals with positivity and enthusiasm
  • Experience with research projects and processes in an academic environment, (ex. development of research questions, research dissemination, scholarly publications, data collection, data analysis, literature reviews, ethics applications, grant applications, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master\'s degree in Education is preferred, with specialization in instructional design or learning experience design, educational research, educational technology, and/or curriculum development
  • Experience in curriculum and/or instructional design and development or the willingness to learn
  • Experience with online course development and delivery using a Learning Management System is strongly recommended
  • Experience and/or education on the topic of Indigenous education or Indigenization of curriculum is an asset
  • Experience and/or education related to the topic of international student support is an asset
  • A strength for organizing events and opportunities
  • Experience with designing faculty programming and opportunities
Salary Starting from $74,419 to $87,553 per annum; commensurate with education and experience

This is an on-campus job opportunity that offers a flexible schedule, allowing you to work from home during the week. We also provide an option to begin the position remotely and then relocate to Lethbridge within a reasonable time frame.
