Reporting to the Supervisor of Educational Interpreting Services, the Educational Deaf Interpreter - LSQ is responsible for langue des signes quebecoise (LSQ) linguistic modelling and support to Deaf signing students, along with facilitating the learning of Deaf culture in various educational settings, and the understanding of how to navigate an environment where French, LSQ, English, and ASL are the predominate languages.
Working with the classroom teacher, Supervisor of Educational Interpreting Services, Education Support Teacher, and Education Support Specialist -ASL, the Educational Deaf Interpreter - LSQ provides the Deaf student with LSQ instruction in the classroom and social settings, as well as supporting the student in their learning of the differences between the unique cultures of home and classroom.
The Educational Deaf Interpreter brings their lived cultural identity and linguistic knowledge to the classroom; this role builds the necessary LSQ linguistic and cultural foundation within the Deaf student. The student needs these skills to successfully navigate a French learning environment.

What you bring to the table:
Lived experience/first voice perspective as a signing Deaf person is required.
Native Fluency in langue des signes quebecoise (LSQ).
Rating from EvaLSQ, minimum level of B2
Functional literacy in French and English.
Ability to communicate effectively in American Sign Language (ASL)
Deaf Interpreter Training.
Follows the standards/criteria laid out by the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI)
LSQ Instruction Training is an asset.
Deaf Adult Literacy Training is an asset.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Is collaborative when working within a team.
Experience
Experience working with children and youth.
Comfortable working in a virtual learning environment.
Linguistic/translation work.
Community support/advocacy work.
Residence counselling, summer camp counselling (paid and volunteer work is recognized).
LSQ Instructor experience is an asset.
Deaf Interpreter Experience is an asset.
Early Childhood Education is an asset.
LSQ/French Literacy experience is an asset.
