Pembina Hills School Division provides education to approximately 3800 students in 15 community schools in north central Alberta. The Position
In the capacity of an Educational Assistant, the successful candidate must be a self directed team player who is capable of providing individual and/or small group assistance to students who require academic and/or regulation support. As the Student Transportation Provider, the individual will collaborate with parents, school staff, and bus drivers to ensure safe transportation of students with diverse learning needs. Hours of work will be 5 days/week at 7.5 hours/day following the school calendar.
Duties are to commence November 3, 2025, pending the outcome of the teacher's strike, and will end June 25, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Effectively support students in engaging in learning activities
Effectively monitor and solve minor behavioural issues
Safely drive passenger(s) following a prescribed route from Westlock/Clyde area to Barrhead
Perform daily vehicle safety inspections, documenting and reporting
Share any difficulties implementing the plan with the Student Services team as per the Pembina Hills procedures
Promote a positive environment
Effectively monitor and solve minor behaviour issues
Use good judgement and safe driving skills
Communicate with parents if there is an emergent interruption/delay with transportation (ie) vehicle breakdown or driver illness
Qualifications
Experience working with students with diverse needs would be an asset
Ability to set clear boundaries, communicate effectively and efficiently and work independently
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults
Preference will be given to applicants with an understanding of childhood development
Must demonstrate ability to work as a member of a school team, taking direction from the classroom teacher, inclusive education lead teacher, and consultants
Ability to work in a flexible learning environment
Enthusiastic and motivated to help students succeed
Class 4 Drivers License
Early, split and late shifts may be required
SIVA training would be an asset
First aid would be an asset
