The Education Assistant (EA) is responsible for providing for the youths' emotional and physical needs while facilitating the education of youth in the classroom settling. The EA fosters a safe, nurturing, structured learning environment. The EA works under the guidance and supervision of the classroom teacher.
Responsibilities:
? Promote an atmosphere of respect for students and adults
? Provide a positive, caring and safe school environment
? Demonstrate ethical and confidential behavior
? Show patience and understanding towards students
? Make a positive contribution to the school's functions and activities
? Carry out teacher-directed activities to reach the students' established goals
? Work with individual and/or groups of students
? Assist in the locating and organizing of resource materials
? Monitor students within and outside of the classroom
? Observe and records students' behavior in accordance with the teacher's plan
? Assist with the organization and supervision of community-based learning experiences
? Complete all other reasonable duties as assigned by the classroom teacher
? Dispense medications to residents according to a doctor's instructions and in accordance with the agency Policy on Use of Medications and Procedure for Administering Medications
? Provide positive role modeling to youth, conduct oneself as a caring adult authority figure, and make decisions in the best interest of the youth
? Ensure timely and accurate information on a daily basis concerning the needs and behaviours of youth and to follow the agency's policy on reporting and documenting critical information
? To demonstrate fiscal responsibility and responsible planning and management of resources in everyday work
? Abide by the Program Budget Agreement and Procedures
? Learn about workplace safety, learn and abide by Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures, and actively participate on the team's Occupational Health and Safety Committee
? Exert effort to work safely in carrying out everyday duties, to proactively resolve safety issues and/or concerns, and to encourage others on the team do the same
? Contribute to the development of the agency's strategic plan; to participate in the program evaluation procedures and in setting goals and strategies for program improvements
? Assist in the development of initiatives that support the overall strategy of the organization
? Learn and operate by the agency's Code of Ethics, philosophy, policies, and procedures and support the team in doing the same
Qualifications:
The Education Assistant will have a combination of education and experience related to working with youth and will possess personal attributes that facilitate the development of strong, positive relationships with students. The EA must be able to work successfully as a member of the Education team. Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and beliefs is an asset. Related work experience, education, and additional skills (e.g. woodworking, mechanical, musical skills) will be considered. Criminal Record Check, and valid class 5 driver's license are required.
