The Educational Assistant (EA) plays a vital role in supporting student learning and well-being in a school setting. Working under the direction of a classroom teacher and school administration, the EA provides academic, social, and behavioral support to students--individually and in small groups--to help ensure an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment for all learners.
Key Responsibilities
Support students with diverse learning needs in the classroom, during small-group instruction, and through one-on-one support as required
Assist the classroom teacher in implementing instructional activities and differentiated learning strategies
Support students with social-emotional development, self-regulation, and positive behavior using school-approved strategies
Reinforce learning concepts through guided practice and repetition
Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization
Provide supervision during transitions, recess, lunch, and other school activities
Observe, document, and communicate student progress, concerns, and successes to the teacher and school team
Follow individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior plans, and safety plans as directed
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Assistant diploma, child and youth care training, or equivalent experience preferred
Experience working with children in an elementary school or childcare setting
Knowledge of differentiated instruction, inclusive practices, and behavior support strategies
Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
Ability to support students with diverse needs, including academic, behavioral, and physical challenges
Ability to follow direction, maintain confidentiality, and work as part of a team
