Overview - Nature and Scope of Work



The Educational Assistant (EA) is responsible for supporting the Classroom / Frontline team. This is accomplished by providing one to one or small group support to students while utilizing the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) teaching techniques for the purposes of language and communication development, socialization, behavioural support , academic and life skills acquisition. As a collaborative member of the Classroom / Frontline team, the Educational Assistant implements individual programs goals and objectives derived from the Alberta Program of Studies. The Educational Assistant provides learning supports and supervises students in their assigned classroom.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator (if assigned to a high ratio classroom) or the Classroom Coordinator (if assigned to a low ratio classroom), the Educational Assistant is a member of the Education Team*.

Education Team consists of but is not restricted to Program Director(s), Training Director, Principal, Certificated Teacher(s), Program Coordinator(s), Classroom Coordinator(s) Group Instructor(s), Educational Assistant(s) and external contracted supports such as Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).*

Primary Duties and Responsibilities



The Educational Assistant (EA) provides educational and behavioural support for all aspects of the individual learning program for students in their assigned classroom.

Instruction Delivery



prepares for daily educational assignments to support orderly student development and progress.

provides direct instruction and/or teacher support to students in a low to high ratio structure.

collaborates on the Education Team to help maintain a classroom that promotes an inclusive environment where diversity is respected and members of the school community are welcomed, cared for, respected and safe.

applies effective and proven program delivery and teaching procedures within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

assesses and collects data as directed, to guide student progress and program change requirements.

interacts with students in a variety of manners which project an image of enthusiasm, motivation, and encouragement.

makes use of resources and services in the school that supports students fulfilling their potential and to follow Janus Academy routines and procedures.

maintains good order and discipline amongst students under their supervision, safeguarding health and safety at all times.

participate in regularly scheduled team meetings, and regular all-staff meetings.

attend scheduled theory modules according to years of service, and all scheduled trainings with the Training Director to remain current with programming needs and changes.

Communication



respects confidentiality as it pertains to parents, students, and staff members in an ethical manner as required by Janus Academy Policies and Procedures.

provides input and feedback to their Certificated Teacher / Classroom Coordinator and Program Coordinator, regarding the progress of each assigned student.

actively participates in staff meetings, team meetings, reporting of IPP progress and offering input and ideas.

maintains and improves personal and professional standards.

performs other duties and assignments as requested.

Qualifications



Qualifications may include:

knowledge of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an asset.

strong communication skills and good command of the English language (written & verbal) are required.

a police clearance which includes a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check is required.

First Aid / CPR Certification is an asset.

experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group preferred

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $20.71 per hour
