Supporting HEMBC (Health Emergency Management BC), the Education Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of psychosocial education and training aimed at supporting communities, psychosocial volunteers and health authorities to prepare for and respond to the psychosocial impacts of emergencies and disasters. The Specialist works collaboratively with PHSA programs, the Disaster Psychosocial Council, health authorities and other key stakeholders to ensure developed resources are evidence\xe2\x80\x93informed and aligned with provincial priorities.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do
  • Leads the development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of psychosocial education and training courses for communities, psychosocial volunteers and health authorities to prepare for and respond to the psychosocial impacts of emergencies and disasters.
  • Supports the development of evidence-informed guidance documents through research and documentation of good psychosocial practice.
  • Works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to identify and prioritize education and training requirements; collaborates with stakeholders to accomplish training needs analyses, curriculum design, and develop in-person and online training programs.
  • Incorporates new adult learning practices and technologies into the development and delivery of trainings to ensure a dynamic and interactive model of learning.
  • Conducts formal presentations and demonstrations to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge to varied stakeholders.
  • Develops informational resources such as pamphlets to support individuals, families and others affected by emergencies and disasters.
  • Participates in the on-call duty roster (evenings and weekends) for Disaster Psychosocial Services deployment requests; may be required to work ad hoc evenings and weekends to support volunteer deployments, trainings and other events that occur for this program.


What you bring

Qualifications
  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Adult Learning or a related discipline plus five (5) years of recent related experience in developing and delivering training courses, including experience interacting with diverse communities as well as government agencies and ministries.
  • Previous experience in providing mental health and psychosocial support to communities affected by emergencies is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and change management skills including the ability to train, facilitate, influence and persuade all levels of health care providers.
  • Requires skills to engage within divergent perspectives including trans and gender diverse, LGBT2Q+, indigenous, non-indigenous and immigrant populations, including ability to engage with diversity of learning styles, education levels and motivational issues around challenging areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and update unique program training software, including graphical space layout, presentation, and on-line learning language and communication techniques.
  • Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, as well as access to a personal vehicle for travel within assigned geographic area. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.

Job Type: Casual (full-time hours)
Wage: $33.00 - $40.00/hour. As a casual employee, total earnings includes an additional 12.6% in lieu of benefits and paid time off
