NEED2 Suicide Prevention, Education & SupportInternal/External Job OpportunityJob Title: Education Programs FacilitatorWage: $22/hour (includes 6% vacation pay) & mileage compensationHours: Up to 15 hours a week. Applicants must have availability during school hours (8am-4pm) at least 3 out of 5 weekdays, along with some evenings and weekends. Exact schedule to be decided in collaboration with the Education ManagerPosition Details: Temporary casual. Position will start September 19, 2022 and end June 30, 2022 with the potential opportunity to continue upon completion of contract.Date Posted: August 17, 2022In working towards removing barriers to employment equity, NEED2 strongly encourages applications from self-identified Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Disabled, 2SLGBTQ+ people.Applications are due Monday August 29, 2022 by 4pm.Organizational Background: Since 1971, the Crisis Intervention and Public Information Society of Greater Victoria (NEED2 SuicidePrevention Education & Support), has been working to prevent deaths by suicide in our community through community work and our online programming (the digital crisis line Youthspace.ca). NEED2 has offered suicide education and training, including our school-based program, Suicide Education & Awareness (SEA) since 1997.Our workshops and training offer young people and other members of the community a chance to talk and learn non-judgmentally about suicide prevention education and mental health skills, and works collaboratively to support schools, administration, teachers, counsellors, and other leaders in the community in Greater Victoria. Summary: The Education Program Facilitators deliver mental health and suicide prevention workshops and trainings to students and other members of the community. The Facilitators work with the Education Manager to support and supervise volunteer co-facilitators, as well as contribute input and feedback to aid in continued enhancement and development of workshop curriculum, trainings and the NEED2 Education program as a whole.Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Workshop Facilitation*
  • Facilitate mental health skills and suicide prevention workshops to Greater Victoria youth and community members
  • Use facilitation skills to establish rapport with workshop participants and create emotional safety to explore questions, attitudes and concerns about suicide and mental health
  • Complete appropriate administrative tasks as related to workshop management
  • Volunteer Coordination*
  • Provide appropriate, guidance, feedback and support to volunteer facilitators

  • Collect and enter statistics data & workshop feedback
  • Attend monthly team meetings and contribute to the overall agency goals and planning;
  • Support the strategic direction of the education programs through active engagement, leadership, and facilitation of the program development and implementation periods
  • Receive appropriate supervision, guidance, feedback and support from the Education Manager
Qualifications: Required:
  • A commitment to the NEED2 mission, vision, and values, including a demonstrated commitment to deepening lifelong learning on topics around mental health, suicide prevention, and social justice
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education, Mental
Health), or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience facilitating groups of varying demographics and ages, including middle and high school students, while navigating sensitive and challenging topics
  • Confidence and comfort delivering information regarding mental health, suicide, and stigma
  • Ability to maintain empathic and respectful working relationships with community partners
  • Ability to set and maintain clear boundaries
  • Self-motivated ability to work independently & interdependently
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills;
  • A current driver's license & vehicle or another method of reliable transportation
  • Willing to obtain current vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check
Preferred:
  • Certification as an ASIST and/or SafeTALK Trainer
  • Certification in ASIST and SafeTALK
  • Knowledge around suicide prevention, mental health issues, youth and adult education, the school system
  • Working knowledge of online tools, including Google Suite, and Microsoft Office, Instagram
  • Additional relevant certifications, such as Mental Health First Aid, START etc
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment
