Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
Providing additional program support to the educational portfolio in Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, this position will work directly with instructors, directors, and other admin staff in the department's undergraduate (MLS) and graduate programs. The department is rapidly expanding its educational offerings and this position will allow existing support staff and instructors as they undertake many time consuming initiatives such as accreditation preparations for multiple programs, transitioning to a new LMS platform, piloting a new graduate program, and curricular design.
This position is intended to complement the existing administrative assistant role by undertaking tasks that require more discipline-specific program knowledge and a higher degree of curricular-content background. A successful candidate would prioritize competing tasks and effectively manage time and workload and meet deadlines, be agile and adaptable; capable of shifting focus as priorities change. This position will require excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and set priorities while keeping close
attention to detail and will require the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Given the fast pace and variety of tasks, the ability to respond quickly to ad hoc requests and the ability to focus and work through interruptions are crucial; as is the ability to develop and maintain positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Responsibilities:

  • Course Coordination: Works with MLS instructors to transition materials into Canvas LMS for upcoming courses; builds course components as per the designated methods of assessment outlined in the Course Outline; creates questions, exams, imports videos into YuJa and other content into modules as required; may assist with preparing/entering gradebook as needed; may be needed to assist with curriculum mapping activities; will manage/prepare/ administer and distribute to Faculty all student course evaluations and
Division level evaluations required for accreditation * Department Initiatives: Provides administrative support for accreditation, quality, and evaluation exercises and processes, including but not limited to collecting supporting data (including appendices), creating and labeling data tables, and ensuring consistent formatting in final written reports. Supports the activities of faculty who are leading accreditation, quality and evaluation. May assist faculty/instructors with development of new programs/courses
  • Other Duties as required: may provide course coordination or accreditation support for other programs in the Laboratory Medicine & Pathology educational portfolio, may provide assistance with MLS admissions (including interviews) as required, may support summer students (undergraduate research projects) as required
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of three years related experience with educational program support
  • Demonstrated ability to work for a large unionized public sector or post-secondary academic organization.
  • Demonstrated competence and aptitude for working with technology and software, including knowledge of the entire Office suite of tools, Google suite of tools, Zoom, Canvas, web content management systems, Tableau and others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
It would be considered an asset to have:
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary environment, preferably within the context of the University of Alberta (policies and procedures)
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the Medical Laboratory Technology field and/or the field of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology
  • Proficiency with Peoplesoft HCM, Campus Solutions, SupplyNET
