This department is a perfect fit for those that want to be part of the future of public education in the province by supporting student learning in a progressive and responsive policy environment.The African Canadian Services Branch (ACSB) is dedicated to collaborating across the Department to build a Nova Scotian educational system that is equitable, culturally responsive and a safe learning environment for all learners.About Our OpportunityAs the Student Services Consultant, you are responsible for identifying, developing and implementing the Department's support services for African Nova Scotian/African Ancestry learners at the elementary and secondary levels.The Consultant provides key liaison services with respect to inclusive education, Student Services and Equity and race relations African Nova Scotian/African Ancestry learners among the other branches and divisions of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development as well as Regional Centres for Education.The Consultant provides strategic direction in support of the achievement and wellness of African Nova Scotian/African Ancestry learners. Monitors, tracks, analyzes and reports on the academic progress of learners from a provincial perspective.Provides professional learning opportunities to staff within Regional Centres for Education, Conseil scolaire acadien provincial, EECD branches and Divisions, other provincial departments/agencies, community based educational partners, universities, associations and the general public where appropriate. This includes activities relating to policy development, professional development, curriculum resources and programming.Provides research-informed consultative services in the design and implementation of interventions for African Nova Scotian/African Ancestry learners through collaboration with colleague in and out of the province. Communicate new developments to educators in Nova Scotia and assist in the development of supplemental education programs and materials which promote educational success.Recommends to Director, African Canadian Services Branch, courses of action to support services to African Nova Scotian/African Ancestry learners.Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you will have a Masters' degree in Education, a Teaching Certificate, and a minimum of eight (8) successful years of teaching, including related leadership experience in student achievement and well-being. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Thorough knowledge of the Nova Scotia education system and thorough knowledge and skill in the areas of student achievement, academic success, wellness, Africentric curriculum development and integration. This includes a proven ability to monitor, track and support learner progress.You will also possess the ability to implement a team approach to program planning in an educational setting, skills in modification of curriculum and a wide variety of teaching approaches and methodologies. You are also skilled in the area of culturally responsive pedagogy with excellent writing and communication skills.The consultant is proficient in using computer applications (Microsoft Office programs, Internet, virtual meeting platforms). Above average organizational and time management skills are essential, as are excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and team-building skills. Proven ability to manage constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and the ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement is required.
