Education Instructor



Location: West End Community Centre (1300 Bath Road)

Position Timeline: September 4th 2025 - June 27th 2026

Note: Programming normally runs in three rounds: Sept-Dec, Jan-March, and March-June. The same staff member stays for the full duration. STEM & Robotics or Literacy & Numeracy Summer Camp

Instructor Positions are also available in July and August.

Hours: (10 - 20 hours/week based on program & staff availability)

Note: Program hours are Monday to Thursday, 3:30 PM - 8:30 PM, Saturday's 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with potential for weekday morning or afternoon shifts.

Rate: $21.50/ hour

Overview:



Education Instructors will play a supportive role in the delivery of exceptional STEM and Literacy education programs while demonstrating positive leadership for children and youth. They will assist in the planning, organizing, and delivery of BGC South East's education programs that are designed to build knowledge and awareness for young people between the ages of 4-18, as well as facilitate the personal, social, and emotional development of participants. Education Instructors will also recognize and accept the need to be a positive influence who models honesty, fair play, a positive attitude, cooperation and respect for self and others. Programs can range from STEM & Robotics for Kinders, to Coding for Juniors, to Construction and Trades for High Schoolers, as well as Literacy for ages 3-7 or Cognitive Wellness for ages 7-12.

Key Responsibilities:



? Plan, lead, and participate in STEM & Robotics education programs and/or Literacy & Cognitive Wellness programs that are based on HIGH FIVE, BGC's Model for Success, and align with the relevant parts of Ontario's educational curriculum. Programs can include STEM & Robotics after-school or evening programs, TruePhonics Structured Literacy evening and weekend programs, PA day camps, school field trips, in-school workshops, and birthday parties.

? Supervise and lead children & youth in the programs, encouraging them to learn, explore, create, and have fun.

? Ensure staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times

? Complete records as required (Incident, Accident forms, etc.)

? Maintain a clean and organized space.

? Implement behavior management techniques effectively per BGC policies and procedures.

? Support & Communicate with the Supervisor/Manager/Coordinator regarding programs and ensure that they meet all BGC standards.

? Participate in staff training and meetings.

? Act as a positive role model for BGC South East in the community and with partners

Job Requirements:



? Currently enrolled or a graduate of Post-Secondary Education, preferably in a STEM

or Education-related field

? Experience in a child-related program/camp setting

? Standard First Aid/C.P.R. LEVEL C - certification

? TDP (10-year booster) and MMR immunizations must be up to date

? Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check)

? Valid driver's license / reliable transportation

? Ability to work both independently and with a team with minimal supervision

? Mentoring and/or coaching abilities

? General knowledge of diversity issues (cultural, socio-economic, etc.)

? Demonstrate conflict resolution skills

? Demonstrate understanding of various aspects of child development and behaviour management

techniques.
