Located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Caring Hearts is a non-profit charity established in 1983 that provides a wide range of grief and loss education programs, counselling services and support groups across Saskatchewan to provide a place of comfort in difficult times. With the goal of offering connection, understanding and belonging to help decrease the loneliness and isolation that grief and trauma can create, we are seeking a strategic leader to take our programming and education in a new and inspired direction.
The Education and Program Director will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of grief and trauma-informed programming and education initiatives. This role will partner will community organizations and stakeholders to develop and facilitate grief or trauma educational programs and oversee related community training initiatives.
Functions of the position
The Education and Program Director will be responsible for program and curriculum development and evaluation, facilitation and training, community engagement, and assist with funding and grant opportunities with the following responsibilities:
conduct internal and external needs assessment to develop and tailor services and programs to meet community needs and ensure all programming aligns with the organization's purpose, vision, and values;
design workshops and training sessions for adult learners, incorporating trauma-informed practices and principles of adult learning;
design and implement educational programs addressing grief, loss and trauma;
facilitate and lead workshops, seminars, and potentially support groups for adults with diverse learning styles and needs;
provide program coordination of support groups in collaboration with counsellors;
collaborate with service delivery partner to coordinate the Caring Hearts Grief Camps for children and youth;
foster Indigenous cultural safety and inclusivity;
train and mentor facilitators and volunteers in program delivery;
develop and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders, funders, community organizations and partners;
promote programs through ongoing community outreach and collaboration;
plan the annual education and programming calendar of sessions, support groups and programs;
develop and implement program evaluation processes to assess effectiveness and impact, using evidence-based practices and outcome measures;
monitor program outcomes and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders and funders;
identify, prepare and submit grant proposals and funding opportunities.
Qualifications and experience to be successful in the position
The Education and Program Director will require experience in curriculum development and evaluation using principles of adult education with the following skills and capabilities:
ability to research, learn, adapt, and create new educational content;
superior written communication and presentation skills;
proficiency in outcomes-based learning methodologies;
strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices;
exceptional group facilitation, public speaking and presentation skills;
ability to build and maintain respectful and trusting relationships with a diverse range of individuals and groups;
knowledge of grief, trauma and mental health supports;
ability to approach challenging situations with optimism and resilience to work with individuals experiencing grief, loss and trauma;
ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively as a team member;
excellent organizational skills;
proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
proficient in program evaluation tools and applications for education development;
legal authorization to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis.
Typically, the knowledge and capabilities required to be successful in this role is achieved through a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, Psychology, Education or health services and a minimum of 5 years' related experience. It would be a strong asset to have certification in Trauma-Informed Care and/or grief counselling, training in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Indigenous cultural safety and a designation or registration with a related professional association.
We will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience in program or education delivery in a non-profit or human services setting.
Other considerations to be successful:
The Education and Program Director will sometimes work evenings or weekends, however, flexibility in working hours will be provided in consideration of these requirements. In addition, there is a medium level requirement to travel throughout the province of Saskatchewan which will require a valid Class 5 drivers license.
