Job purpose


Reporting directly to the Editorial Director, the Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support for the Editorial Director as well as the MIRA Books publishing program, and for obtaining an understanding of the publishing business. The Editorial Assistant is a front-line contact for the Editorial team, and assists in positively portraying the company to external sources.
Responsibilities:
Provides administrative support to the Editorial Director with regular tasks including, but not limited to: updating and maintaining internal Editorial systems and publishing schedules; assisting with presentation and meeting materials; providing first reads of manuscripts, revision notes, line-edits and packaging support; the shepherding of edited manuscripts and their associated Production materials; corresponding with authors and agents; responding to email and phone queries. Completes first screen for all "slush" manuscripts and query letters submitted, identifies and forwards any that are determined to be worth further consideration, and composes rejection letters as required. Manages the social media platforms and backlist programs that fall under the MIRA purview, and works with the relevant teams to develop schedules, packaging and assets. Acts as front-line contact for the MIRA team by screening requests or messages from external parties, such as responding to queries from authors/agents, fulfilling requests from our subrights team and overseas offices, providing information when known or referring to the proper source. Provides administrative assistance to the MIRA team, including but not limited to requesting ISBNs, generating reports, ordering books, etc. Provides assistance to the team as needed to support imprint strategy and growth.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree preferred Previous administrative experience The ability to prioritize, pay close attention to detail, and to multi-task Strong communication, planning, organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills Creativity, decisiveness, functional/technical knowledge, adept with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, adaptability/flexibility, and a drive for results. While these qualifications are not compulsory, they are considered strong assets: Post-secondary publishing diploma 1 year experience in the publishing industry or the equivalent
