Editor & Staff Writer - alive Magazine (Print) alive, North America\xe2\x80\x99s premiere natural health publisher, is looking for a skilled Editor & Staff Writer! Reporting to the Group Content Director, the successful candidate chosen for the position of "Editor & Staff Writer\xe2\x80\x9d for alive will be a self-starter that possesses skill, initiative, and passion for the written word, editing, and publishing. You possess a unique combination of abilities that allow you to successfully engage in \xe2\x80\x9cheads-down\xe2\x80\x9d editing tasks for long periods of time combined with a creative mind that compels you to idea share, collaborate, and work collectively as an active member of the small, yet mighty, alive editing team. Your writing skills are as strong as your editing skills, and your communication skills are as strong as your independence. You take pride in the final product, while appreciating the tenacity required for each step of production along the way. You are dedicated to producing nothing short of exceptional work at all times and are a self-starter who is eager to take on new, custom projects in addition to standard publishing requirements. Summary of Essential Job Functions:
  • Generate and research article ideas when required
  • Commission writers to create original content when required
  • Write, edit, and proofread articles for various publications (print & digital) and audiences
  • Write, edit, and proofread various marketing materials as required
  • Upload images and manage various alive.com and WordPress tasks as required
  • Complete all newsletters, and digital publications (alive@work/alive Connect) when required
  • Provide support for digital platforms (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, etc.) as required
  • Perform laser reviews as required
  • Engage in cross-training with other editors as requested to ensure smooth, consistent workflow during absences and/or vacations
  • Meet all deadlines for the above as assigned
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Daily/weekly check-ins with department manager as required
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent in English, Journalism, Communications required
  • Minimum 4+ years work experience as an editor and writer. (Preference will be given to candidates with publishing experience and 5+ years in the industry)
  • Experience in a leading editorial role with proven experience with editorial lineup creation and strict deadlines.
  • Excellent research, communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. (Editing test will be administered as part of the interview process. Minimum 80% required to be considered.)
  • Creative thinker with demonstrated drive and initiative; a self-starter who takes initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; can work well in a team or independently
  • Comfortable with Mailchimp, WordPress and other CMSs
  • Proficiency with Adobe, Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel; experience with Photoshop and InDesign an asset
  • Energetic, detail oriented, and organized, with strong time management skills
  • Ability to be flexible and respond quickly with a can-do attitude and problem-solving focus. Extended hours occasionally required to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to support other products (including print and digital products) and follow guidance from editorial and design teams
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to monitor the progress and status of deliverables and communicate appropriately
