As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help support current and future industry professionals and become an art of Canada\'s leading polytechnic.

This position provides technical support for the instructional staff and students in the Culinary Arts program by maintaining equipment and adequate supplies for instructional purposes, assist in the preparation of lab/shop exercises through preparation of test samples, learning aides, equipment calibration, set-up, repair and demonstrate safe operation of equipment to students. This position requires a strong knowledge and understanding of the technology, procedures, and instrumentation used in the Department.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab/Shop Responsibilities

  • Maintain lab/shop equipment
  • Calibrate equipment
  • Ensure lab security
  • Manufacture specialized items when required
  • Ensure work area is in a safe condition
  • Liaison with other sections or programs when required
Inventory and Budget Control:
  • Maintain consumables
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and consumables
  • Obtain quotes when ordering new equipment
  • Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature
Instructional Support:
  • Demonstrate lab/shop equipment
  • Prepare, setup and dismantle lab/shop exercises
  • Assist or perform lab/shop demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of
  • Instructional support
  • Ensure knowledge of related equipment including use and application
  • Assist instructional staff when require ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment
  • Assist instructors in the development of new lab/shop exercises
Student Support:
  • Explain principles and operation of related equipment
  • Demonstrate equipment
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment when necessary
  • Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
  • Ensure students are working in a safe condition
Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Knowledge of computers
  • Ability to operate a variety of manual, electronic and pneumatic tools and equipment
  • Ability to properly and safely use related tools
  • Ability to determine materials required and calculate estimate costs
  • Physically capable to perform the work functions of this position (ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted)
  • Ability to be flexible with work hours and assignment
Qualifications:
  • Completion of grade twelve
  • Related trade certificate or technical diploma
  • Experience working in a lab/shop setting
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\'s license
  • Knowledge of related occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Equivalencies may be considered
Remuneration: $26.73 - $36.11 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay. (Classification - Ed Lab Tech II).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
