Primary Purpose of Position





Sinopec Canada has an opportunity for an Economic Modeling Analyst to join the Business Strategy and Planning team. Reporting to the AFE and Evaluation Manager. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop assets lever economic models, integrating multi-source data (engineering, finance, production), and be responsible for all economic evaluation tasks. This role combines traditional economic evaluation with modern data integration techniques to support capital project decision making and WPB/LTP compiling across the organization.





The Economic Modeling Analyst will be based in Sinopec Canada's Calgary, Alberta head office.

Roles and Responsibilities:




Economic Evaluation: Conduct asset and project economic analysis (NPV, IRR, breakeven, payback, cashflow, sensitivity analysis etc.). Providing recommendations for investment strategies and business decisions based on the analysis. Data Integration: Automate data extraction, transformation, and regression from various databases using Python. Collating and interpreting complex data from a range of sources and effectively communicating this information to stakeholders. Model Development: Develop and maintain Excel-Python-Mosaic fusion economic and optimization models that integrate engineering, financial, and market data. Creating financial models to evaluate investment opportunities in the oil and gas industry Digital Tools: Develop dashboards for internal users to interact with economic models or view real-time project KPIs. Collaboration: Partner with geoscience, engineering, IT, and finance teams to ensure consistency of inputs and interpret model outputs. Reporting: Preparing detailed reports and presentations on their findings for company executives and shareholder. Innovation: Propose and prototype smart tools (e.g. forecast automation) that improve planning, budgeting, or asset performance evaluation. Other activities related to the role.



Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience




Proficient in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Dash/Plotly). Familiar with SQL, Excel VBA, or Power BI/Tableau for reporting. Experience with economic modeling software (Mosaic, Enersight) . General understanding of upstream operations and economic drivers. Awareness of Canadian royalty and tax regimes (e.g. Alberta Modernized Royalty Framework). Strong problem-solving ability and excellent communication to bridge technical and non-technical teams.



Qualifications




Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or related field. Dual background (e.g., Engineering + Data Science) preferred. 5+ years in oil & gas upstream asset economic evaluation, project modeling, production databases, and cost models. Proven experience with Python or similar software for data analysis/modeling in a professional setting. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
