Overview:



The Economic Development Officer is responsible for securing funding and overseeing strategic planning to source, acquire, and manage projects within the community. This role involves delivering economic development programs and services, collaborating with colleagues and community members to ensure the effective promotion and development of community development initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:



Source, acquire, and manage projects within the community by securing funding and overseeing strategic planning. Initiate and oversee projects within the community by managing the project's funding, deliverables, and resources until the project is ready to hand off. Facilitate the development and ongoing operation of the Economic Development Board by coordinating meetings, developing agendas, providing necessary information and support, and ensuring adherence to its mandate and governance structure. Develop a community presence and provide information about Economic Development programs and events to the Wahta community. Provide communications content for the Wahta newsletter, website, and social media as per established guidelines and best practices. Gather, process, record, and submit required documentation to meet funding agreement needs and minimize risk to Wahta. Research specialized grant opportunities and create information for applications in collaboration with the Wahta finance team and leadership. Manage financial program expenses monthly for efficient use of funds, accurate recording, and reporting. Develop, deliver, and manage all programs, services, and initiatives by using input gathered from community members, staff, and past experience. Network with other social services agencies, community-based services, and professional networks to remain up-to-date and increase access to services. Manage strategic planning of new projects or tasks by following up with colleagues and monitoring and redirecting workflow to maintain progress. Protect the privacy and confidentiality of community members and staff by safeguarding client and sensitive information as per the privacy policy. Conduct other related duties and relevant tasks at an appropriate level as assigned by leadership.

Skills Required:



Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including negotiating, explaining technical matters in non-technical terms, and exchanging detailed information. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. Must have the ability to work effectively in a team. Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, with a high level of accuracy regarding information. The ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all levels of employees is critical.

Education and Experience Requirements:



Minimum College Diploma in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar or related position with a proven demonstration of skills. Minimum of 5 years experience in Economic Development. Preferably Indigenous work experience.

Terms of Employment:



This is a Full-Time Contract position for a term of one (1) year, beginning immediately. The role is classified as a Level 4 on the Wahta Mohawks salary grid, with a salary range of $57,200.00 to $85,800.00 annually. The hours of work are Full-Time, Monday to Thursday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, and Friday, 8:00am - 2:00pm.
