Located on Leq'a: mel traditional territory near Deroche, B.C. The Leq'a: mel Development Corporation (LDC) is owned by Leq'a: mel First Nation and is the business entity that champions economic development activities for the Nation.
This position will work very closely with identified partners, Development Proponents and the Leq'a: mel First Nation Lands and Natural Resources Department (LNRD) to jointly achieve key economic development goals based on strategic initiatives of the LFN Membership, Chief and Council, and the LDC Board of Directors.
With a large number of economic development activities underway and planned, the LDC has a unique opportunity for an Economic Development Assistant (EDA). The position will support the collection and flow of information related to specific projects that will support and assist with project success. The EDA will work with others to support the initiation and successful completion of the economic objectives of the LDC occurring on Leq'a: mel Lands as defined in the Leq'a: mel Land Code. The EDA fosters a collaborative, positive working relationship between the LDC and all LFN departments and may assist in the creation and implementation of the
Leq'a: mel Economic Development Working Group (LEDWG) which is promotes a smooth, principled completion of shared projects and objectives that will foster a shared understanding of LFN's community-driven vision, goals and objectives as they relate to Community Economic Development.
Key Responsibilities
Support and complete the following: Foster strong working relationships between LFN departments and respect LFN culture
Foster and promote a strong respectful and courteous work place
Supporting the creation, review and approval of operational document
Scheduling, organizing and support meetings and related logistics (eg: assisting in the development of meeting agendas, information collection, filing and retention of confidential data/documents, taking meeting minutes, arranging for venues, caterers, invitations. Meeting business and residential tenants
Supporting LDC at Community Engagement and other meetings as needed
Establish data sharing, records management and make website and social media posts and other organizational communications as required
Supporting capacity building, relationship building and other training and learning opportunities for the business community
Working with the LDC and LFN to understand and communicate shared economic visions, goals, objectives, projects and activities
Support the Leq'a:mel Land Code and related Laws, Plans and Policies, and process and information/documentation requirements as they relate to projects
Support LDC at community economic development and community engagement sessions, including Leq'a:mel Committees, general community, membership, residents and tenant meetings
Provide support to staff and partners as needed
Complete in person and email communication of materials and notices
Plan, host and represent LDC businesses and partners at Career and Employment events
Support the LDC in development and submission of Applications
Supporting and preparing for Project Proponents, Partners and Consultant meetings and the collection and sharing of information
Support the preparation and submission of information to others
Have a knowledge of the "Development and permit process"
Have familiarity with strategic plans, Land Use Plans, OCP and Zoning, Applications, Environmental Assessments
Assist in the creation of project work plans and regulatory compliance schedules in concert with LFN requirements and LDC project milestones
Complete filing and retention and access to confidential and non-confidential documents
Maintain strong relationships with LFN, LNRD, community members, tenants, Business Partners and Proponents.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Commitment to understanding and promoting and respecting LFN culture, visions and values
General familiarity with First Nation Land Code governance and economic development on-reserve, or willingness to learn
General familiarity with construction and development process
Present a professional demeanor at all times to all members of the public, members, stakeholders, development proponents and funders
Present as a professional and supportive member of the LDC Team
Advanced skills and ability to use a variety of programs including MS Office, PowerPoint and Outlook as required as well as computer hardware
Ability to be innovative and work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to interact well with and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
Able to sign a Confidentiality agreement
Ability to complete an Enhanced security Clearance
Adhere to the LFN / LDC Policy Manual
Possess and provide a current Class 5 BC Driver's License with Drivers Abstract.
Have access to a personal vehicle for work
Carry a company cell phone and respond to enquiries
Be available after hours occasionally to participate in meetings
Successful completion of High School or equivalent and Post-secondary and 2 or more years Administrative Assistant experience combined with Business knowledge and experience is considered an asset.
