Position Purpose summary:
The ECE Teacher collaborates closely with all other members of the program team to provide nurturing care and education to young children in a group setting, under the supervision of the Childcare Supervisor; in accordance with the goals and curriculum plans, philosophy and policies of the Learning Corner Childcare Centre and in compliance with the Child care and Early Years Act.
Accountabilities:
Service Responsibilities:General supervise and manage children's safety and well-being in classroom.
Observe and record relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per Centre practices.
Develop documentation to assess the children's learning and development as appropriate according to the ELECT document. Recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behavior management techniques.
Assist in orientating new children and families; provides on-going feedback on child's development and behaviour.
Assist with effective risk management; monitor food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provide emergency First Aid and complete reports and file incident reports as required.
Participate in the supervision, training and mentoring of assistant teachers and students when necessary.
Participate fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the Centre's program; maintain regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
Establish and maintain regular communication with parents.
Must know and comply with Centre routines and practices; Child Care and Early Years Act regulations; the Health Department guidelines.
Share in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage children's creativity and learning and promote each child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
Share responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assist with toy/equipment disinfecting.
Share responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
Required to safely escort children to and from school and on trips or walks outside the Centre.
Participate in special events put on by the Child Care Centre.
Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes supporting the missions of The Salvation Army and The Learning Corner Childcare Centre.
Perform other position related duties as required.
Organizational Responsibilities:Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Maintain information in confidential as required. Ensure that all information about children, family, staff, visitors, and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are stored in a secure location.
Attend and participate actively in all programs and meetings as required.
Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
Participate in performance appraisal process.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Work with the Supervisory to ensure that the program operates at all times in compliance with all childcare licensing standards, contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements; ensure full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary.
Participate in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures.
Participate in ongoing professional development and attend/maintain all mandatory training.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENTInternal relationships:
+ Direct Supervisor and other management members, staff, volunteers, and children.
+ Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness.
External relationships:
+ Parents, Health Inspector, Supporting Agencies
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:This position reports directly to the Child Care Supervisor or designate.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:Occasionally responsible for the receipt of childcare fee, money and non-monetary donations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:Working environment is inside and outside building.
The performance of the job requires the ability to reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, moping, sweeping, and stooping.
Ability to lift/carry children, stand for extended periods of time and work at the height of children.
Require physical coordination and agility in order to lead games and activities for children.
Normal hours of work - as children enrollment changes time by time, ECE Teacher's work schedule changes based on enrollment numbers. There is a minimum two weeks' notice time for schedule change. If less than two weeks' notice time, it must have employee's consent.
Normal location of work is at The Learning Corner Child Care Centre, 3199 Lauzon Road, Windsor, ON N8T 2Z7.

education and experience Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:Must have Early Childhood Education Diploma; registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Letter from Physician stating fit to work with young children
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:Working knowledge of the CCEYA.
Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working with children in a childcare environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-motivation and discipline.
Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
