Job Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for creating and implementing Metis focused development based educational programs for children that are nurturing and culturally sensitive. Responsibilities include:
Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment that supports exploration, independence, and positive behavior.
Observing, documenting, and assessing children's developmental progress using appropriate tools and methods.
Building trusting, respectful relationships with children and families, providing ongoing communication and support.
Collaborating with colleagues to design curriculum, solve challenges, and maintain a consistent and positive learning atmosphere.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Early Childhood License to Practice Certificate or Early Childhood Educator Assistant
Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
Experience working with Metis children or other Indigenous children aged (birth to school age) is an asset.
Experience working with children with special needs, behavioral support or Special Needs certification is considered an asset.
To work as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) or ECE Assistant in a licensed child care facility in B.C. must be certified by the ECE Registry.
Currently Certified in Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR/AED Level B

Can demonstrate awareness about the history and traditions of the Metis people and The Metis Nation of BC.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Broad knowledge of child development, guidance strategies, working with children and families.
Familiar with Provincial Child Care Regulations
Strong organizational, observational, and problem-solving skills,
A positive, patient, and flexible approach to working with young learners.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
Willingness to learn and be part of a high functioning team.
Physical ability to keep up with a fast-paced, energetic environment.
Working Conditions:
Physical demands include the ability to lift, bend, or carry children, especially in younger age groups.
Maintain a nurturing, calm, supportive atmosphere, addressing the emotional and developmental needs of children while managing challenging behaviors.

Initial and on-going employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record check and vulnerable sector screening.
Current valid First Aid/CPR Certificate (child specific)
Provide documentation as proof of participation in the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Valid BC Driver's License
Provide (3) written character references
