LONG TERM OCCASIONAL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS

LTO Term: Immediately to December 5, 2025







Position Summary:

Afternoon/PM Wraparound: 10:45 am - 6:15 pm



Registered/Designated Early Childhood Educators will be responsible for the implementation of a full day kindergarten program in accordance with the Education Act, and providing after school programming in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act. RECE/DECEs will report to both their School Administrator, as well as the Early Years Manager







RECE/DECEs work in collaboration with the classroom teacher to develop and implement developmentally appropriate programs according to the Ministry of Education Kindergarten Program curriculum. They will work in partnership with the classroom OCT to plan, prepare and implement play-based activities as well as observation and documentation of children's learning.







This position will require RECE/DECEs to provide both a professional, high quality play based licensed before and after school program that meet the needs of children 3.8 to 12 years of age, as well as develop and implement a program based on the Ministry of Education "How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years" document while adhering to the regulations and mandates of the Child Care and Early Years Act.











Key Responsibilities:







This position will require the RECE/DECE to fulfill the duties and responsibilities in both the before or after school program as well as the Full Day Kindergarten core day;

Knowledgeable on the pedagogical practices as they relate to early learning and child development and understands the Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum documents "How Does Learning Happen" and "The Kindergarten Program";

Collaborate with the classroom OCT to develop a play-based program;

Understand and comply with all requirements as per the Child Care and Early Years Act, Education Act and other applicable statutes/regulations;

Must be familiar with the developmental needs of children ranging from ages 3.8 years to 12 years;

Before and After School Program areas will be based out of shared spaces within HDSB schools, therefore, requiring movement/set up of equipment on a daily/weekly/monthly basis;

Perform the duties and meet the requirements of a before and after school program as legislated by the Ministry of Education, Child Care and Licensing;

Plan, organize and lead activities for children 3.8 years to 12 years of age to meet the developmental needs of children;

Ensure the supervision and health and safety of the children is maintained at all times;

Liaise with parents and community contacts;






Qualifications :







Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education

A member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators

18 years of age or older

Current Standard First Aid and Infant Child CPR-C & AED certification (Level C)

Current and clear Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check

Current health assessment and immunization, in accordance with local Public Health guidelines.

Strong interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport with children, families, staff/volunteers, and community partners

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Working Computer knowledge














Computer skills and knowledge will be considered an asset.
