Position Overview
As an
Earthworks Superintendent
at ASP, you are the field leader responsible for the day-to-day execution of complex earthworks and site servicing projects. You'll oversee crews, manage subcontractors, enforce safety, maintain quality standards, and drive productivity while being a role model of Azimuth's core values. You serve as the central figure in planning, coordination, and site leadership--ensuring that projects progress efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies
1. Project Planning & Execution
Lead daily planning and coordination meetings with crews and trades.
Anticipate potential delays and adjust sequencing while maintaining momentum.
Review daily goals, material availability, and work zones to minimize downtime.
2. Site Safety Leadership
Enforce strict compliance with OH&S, WCB, and Azimuth safety protocols.
Facilitate toolbox talks, daily safety huddles, and weekly trade safety meetings.
Lead incident response investigations and root cause analysis when needed.
Monitor site safety behavior and ensure proactive correction of unsafe acts or conditions.
3. Conflict Resolution & Field Oversight
Manage site conflicts and sequencing issues with professionalism and urgency.
Coordinate logistics and trade overlap to maintain schedule alignment.
Identify and address constructability or coordination issues before they escalate.
Review and verify field layout, formwork, trenching, backfill, and finish tolerances.
4. Communication & Collaboration
Maintain open, respectful, and consistent communication with all site personnel.
Liaise with Project Managers, Estimators, and Coordinators for workflow updates.
Support and host site walkthroughs with clients, consultants, and inspectors.
5. Schedule Management
Monitor field progress against project schedule and identify critical path risks.
Proactively address productivity slowdowns and mitigate potential delays.
Hold trades accountable to key milestones, phase completions, and deliverables.
6. Quality Assurance & Deficiency Management
Continuously monitor workmanship and ensure adherence to specs and design.
Document deficiencies clearly, assign responsibility, and follow through to resolution.
Approve completed scopes before allowing subsequent trades to proceed.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Support the generation and tracking of RFIs, change orders, and site instructions.
Utilize Procore (or equivalent) to maintain accurate logs, daily reports, and updates.
Keep field documents and drawings current and available on site.
8. Team Development & Mentorship
Mentor Foremen, Lead Hands, and Assistant Superintendents through active coaching.
Provide regular feedback, goal setting, and support for growth and accountability.
Delegate meaningful leadership tasks to help team members prepare for advancement.

Qualifications
5+ years of experience in civil or earthworks construction with 2+ years in a site leadership role.
Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading, and underground utility installation.
Competency in reviewing civil drawings, interpreting layout, and sequencing trades.
Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar project management tools.
Valid Class 5 license, CSTS, First Aid, Ground Disturbance, and relevant safety certifications.
