We are seeking an Early-Career Environmental Data Specialist to work with our team of consulting scientists and engineers in addressing our client s data management needs in Ontario, British Columbia, or Saskatoon. You will develop databases and other tools to compile, visualize and analyze data from a variety of sources; build interactive dashboards and reports; assist with the design, development, sales and implementation of new products and services for our client; and have the opportunity to identify and develop solutions for other industries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The selected candidate will generally work on a variety of projects with one or more scientists and engineers and will recommend and implement solutions to our client s problems. You will attend client calls and occasionally travel to client meetings and conferences to demonstrate and sell your work. Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Designing, developing and managing environmental databases in SQL Server, EQuIS, and Microsoft Access;
  • Developing comprehensive workflows to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to maps, reports and other tools;
  • Advising clients and team members in data management procedures;
  • Developing web-based reports and dashboards in BI tools;
  • Reviewing and querying databases for data quality and completeness;
  • Developing database outputs and output workflows in tables, figures, and other visualizations as requested;
  • Authoring Data Management Plans and other documentation; and
  • Interacting with clients to support engineering and environmental projects.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
  • Bachelor s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Management, or similar (required)
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of related work experience in a similar role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with basic scientific and engineering concepts (basic chemistry, engineering unit conversions, introductory statistics, algebra and geometry). (required)
  • Experience with database management and building ETL processes. (preferred)
  • Experience implementing operational automation using scripting techniques. (preferred)
  • Technical knowledge on environmental science, chemistry, and environmental data management (required).
  • Intermediate to advanced MS SQL Server and T-SQL skills. (required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Experience with web-based reports and dashboards in BI tools. (asset)
  • Experience with Python. (asset)
  • Knowledge of website development. (asset)
  • A valid Canadian driver s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
