Position Summary:



The Early Childhood Educator - Support

is responsible for working within the Early Years Education & Care team to provide additional support to children with identified or emerging diverse abilities. This role ensures that every child is included in all aspects of programming, contributing to a culturally safe, developmentally appropriate, diverse and welcoming environment. The

Early Childhood Educator (ECE) - Support

person collaborates with the Early Years Education & Care team, families and, community workers to promote positive outcomes for all children.

Key Responsibilities:



Inclusive Child Support:

Provide one-on-one and small group support for children with developmental, behavioral, or other diverse abilities to ensure full participation in daily routines and activities.

Curriculum Delivery:

Collaborate with the Early Years Education & Care team to implement a play-based, culturally grounded curriculum that reflects the health, safety and reflective interests of the children.

Documentation & Observation:

Participate in daily observations, documentation of learning, and reflective practice to inform responsive programming.

Health & Safety:

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment that complies with licensing regulations and Wachiay policies. Participate in daily safety checks and incident documentation as required.

Team Collaboration:

Attend staff meetings, AHS Program Evaluation Processes (PEP), share in planning responsibilities, and provide general support to the Early Years Education & Care team in daily operations.

Family Engagement:

Build respectful and trusting relationships with families, offering support and open communication about their child's development and participation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Cultural Competency:

Demonstrated respect for and understanding of Indigenous cultures, values, and child-rearing practices, specifically, Aboriginal Head Start Principles and Guidelines.

Child Development Knowledge:

Solid understanding of early childhood development, with specific awareness of inclusive practices and support strategies for children with diverse abilities.

Teamwork & Communication:

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Self-Motivation & Initiative:

Able to work independently within program plans, take initiative in supporting children, and contribute positively to the overall team dynamic.

Adaptability:

Comfortable adjusting to meet the ability of all children and the evolving requirements of the program environment.

Education & Experience:



Education:

Valid Early Childhood Education Certificate to practice in BC (required),

Additional Qualifications:

Special Needs and/or Infant Toddler certification (part of the ECCE Diploma) is preferred or equivalent experience supporting children with diverse abilities.
Completed the online BC Early Learning Framework training and, familiarity with the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years experience working in a licensed childcare setting, prefer experience working in an Aboriginal Head Start program.

Certifications:

Current First Aid certification (childcare-focused) and clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
