Position Summary
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising a safe, inclusive, and engaging before and after school program for children ages 4-12. Working in alignment with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years (How Does Learning Happen?), and organizational policies, the ECE fosters a nurturing environment that supports children's well-being, learning, and development.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities that reflect the interests, strengths, and needs of school-age children.
Provide active supervision and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all children in care.
Establish and maintain positive, responsive, and professional relationships with children, families, school personnel, and colleagues.
Support children in developing social skills, independence, and problem-solving abilities through positive guidance strategies.
Create an inclusive environment that respects diversity and promotes equity and belonging.
Maintain accurate daily records including attendance, incident reports, and communication logs.
Ensure compliance with all licensing requirements under the CCEYA, Ministry of Education guidelines, Public Health standards, and organizational policies.
Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications
Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and current registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
Knowledge of CCEYA, How Does Learning Happen?, and best practices in child development.
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Experience working in a childcare or school-age program is an asset.
Working Conditions
Split shifts: typically 6:00-9:00 AM and 2:30-6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Indoor and outdoor programming in various weather conditions.
Active supervision requiring physical engagement with children.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive hourly wage (based on qualifications and experience).
Eligibility for the Ontario government's Wage Enhancement Grant (WEG) if applicable.
