Squamish Nation is looking for ECEs for our infant and toddler program to guide children through the unique context of our culture, language, values and land.

In moments of crisis, you act quickly and take control while maintaining a calm and approachable demeanour. Your strong emotional intelligence allows you to communicate tactfully, build trust quickly and achieve desirable outcomes with children, parents and stakeholders.

Your Role

This Early Childhood Educator role is more than childcare. You will provide holistic support for child and family development, supporting the Mother Bear Child Development Centre and Daycare Services purpose to protect and strengthen families and to provide peace to the children of Squamish Nation.

Your key areas of responsibilities include: * Develop, implement and lead cultural programs and activities such as storytelling, drumming, reading, singing and fieldtrips with infants and toddlers.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of a pre-determined curriculum through your observations and interactions with children on the front-line.
  • Actively manage/de-escalate behavioural challenges or anxieties that may arise with children.
  • Provide reports on children\xe2\x80\x99s progress to parents, deliver information tactfully and respectfully, and build external relationships that promote program awareness and represent the department.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Represent Squamish Nation values and culture by providing care with empathy and an emphasis on traditional cultural healing and teaching methods.
  • Contribute actively to Squamish Nation Aya\xcc\x81s Me\xcc\x81n\xcc\x93men Child and Family Services team to achieve department and organizational objectives.
Your Background
  • Early Childhood Educator certification with an infant and toddler specialization.
  • Possession of a valid Early Childhood Educator license or a willingness to obtain.
  • 1-2+ years of experience is an asset, performing responsibilities listed above including aboriginal social issues, case management, social work/social welfare, family studies, infant mental health, early childhood development, and/or special education.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Have a professional capacity to recognize and assess children\'s abilities, needs and behavioural patterns and shift programming accordingly.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with ability to deliver complicated information tactfully and diplomatically.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining composure and taking control in high-pressure situations.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, patience, \xe2\x80\x98softness\xe2\x80\x99 in approach, integrity and physical ability to keep up with young children on a daily basis.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid and FoodSafe certificates.
  • Technical proficiency with experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Beginner Squamish language (Skwxw\xc3\xba7mesh Snichim) fluency is an asset, but not required.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities or non-profit organizations is an asset.
