Position Summary



The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) supports the planning, delivery and evaluation of program activities for children between the ages of 30 months to school age with diverse abilities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. This role emphasizes building positive relationships and models respectful, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate practices, setting a positive example for both children and peers in the program. The ECE facilitates group activities and delivers engaging, outcomes-focused programming using a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety, empowerment, choice and skill development. The ECE upholds the Agency's values in daily practice, adheres to policies, procedures, relevant standards and follows the Agency Code of Ethics to guide professional decision-making and behavior. The ECE works collaboratively with the team to support program goals and positive outcomes for participants.

Wage:

$21/hour + $4/hr ECE-WE = $25/hour

Term:

Permanent, ongoing

Hours:

20 hours/week

Shift:

Monday - Friday, 1:30pm - 5:30pm

Key Duties and Responsibilities



Plans and Delivers Developmentally Appropriate Programming
Uses modeling, questioning, and reinforcing techniques to create engaging, intentional, and age-appropriate activities.

Encourages Participation through a Strengths-Based, Inclusive Approach
Fosters engagement by recognizing children's interests, needs, and cultural identities.

Implements Trauma-Informed and Emotionally Supportive Practices
Prioritizes safety, empowerment, and emotional regulation using trauma-informed strategies.

Supports Individualized Care and Behaviour Plans
Collaborates with supervisors and support workers to implement tailored learning and behaviour strategies based on care plans.

Monitors Development and Connects Families to Support Services
Shares observations and assists in referrals to professionals (e.g., speech, occupational, or behavioral therapists).

Applies Learning Theories (Visual, Verbal, Tactile) to Enhance Engagement
Adapts interaction styles to support diverse learning needs and promote social-emotional growth.

Maintains Licensing and Health Standards in Daily Childcare
Upholds hygiene, nutrition, sleep, and toileting standards while maintaining regulated staff-to-child ratios.

Administers First Aid and Supports Medication Needs
Follows established procedures for medical assistance, self-administration of medication, and emergency care.

Ensures a Safe, Structured Environment and Manages Risk
Conducts daily safety checks, observes for distress, reports hazards, and follows emergency protocols, including during out-trips.

Engages Respectfully with Families Using Approved Communication Tools
Shares daily updates digitally, discusses developmental progress, and encourages parental involvement.

Contributes to Program Planning and Continuous Improvement
Offers feedback, observes engagement, and helps refine programming in collaboration with supervisors.

Models Best Practices and Supports Staff Orientation
Mentors ECEAs and practicum students by modeling routines and child guidance techniques.

Completes Documentation and Reporting Duties Accurately
Maintains logs, attendance, incident reports, and care documentation per agency expectations.

Represents the Agency in Community Engagement Activities
Participates in events, committees, and outreach to promote awareness of the agency's programs and services.

Upholds Ethical Standards, Confidentiality, and Professional Boundaries
Adheres to agency policies, CARF standards, and ensures dignity and rights of all participants are respected.

Minimum Qualifications



Must be 19 years of age Valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate approved by the British Columbia ECE Registry One (1) year recent experience working with children with a minimum of 20 hours training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition to meet licensing standards working with children 30 months to school age with diverse abilities in a licensed child care setting Food Safe - Level 1 Demonstrated experience in relationship building and working with diverse family systems Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR B
