Position Summary
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) supports the planning, delivery and evaluation of program activities for children between the ages of 30 months to school age with diverse abilities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. This role emphasizes building positive relationships and models respectful, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate practices, setting a positive example for both children and peers in the program. The ECE facilitates group activities and delivers engaging, outcomes-focused programming using a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety, empowerment, choice and skill development. The ECE upholds the Agency's values in daily practice, adheres to policies, procedures, relevant standards and follows the Agency Code of Ethics to guide professional decision-making and behavior. The ECE works collaboratively with the team to support program goals and positive outcomes for participants.

Position 1 - Treehouse Club Mornings
Wage:
$21/hour + $4/hr ECE-WE = $25/hour (wages currently under review)

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Organizes and implements creative, intentional, and developmentally appropriate activities and experiences using modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing techniques
Encourages participants to take part in daily activities by using a positive, strengths- and interests-based approach and acting as a supportive role model
Supports participants' additional needs by sharing observations with the Supervisor and helping connect families with professionals--such as behavioural, occupational, and speech-language therapists - as appropriate
Utilizes a learning theory approach (visual, verbal, and tactile/experiential) when interacting with participants
Supports the implementation of positive behaviour guidance strategies aligned with the Early Childhood Behaviour Guidance Framework
Follows trauma-informed approaches that prioritize safety, empowerment, and choice, and supports emotional regulation in children
Demonstrates respect for and inclusion of diverse cultural backgrounds, languages, family structures, and abilities
Engages with children and families in ways that reflect cultural sensitivity and awareness of diverse traditions, values, and lived experiences
Adheres to CARF accreditation standards and the Agency's policies and procedures, while aligning practice with both the Agency's goals and the guiding principles outlined in the Model for Success
Offers observations and suggestions to the Supervisor to support program planning and continuous improvement
Ensures the safety and well-being of participants, setting clear boundaries, communicating expectations, modeling respectful behavior, and maintaining a structured and secure environment
Builds positive relationships and maintains respectful, professional communication with families about participants' daily experiences
Incorporates inclusive practices that support cultural safety and diversity among children and families
Modifies programming based on observations and participant feedback to enhance engagement and effectiveness
Engages children in guided group activities that promote social-emotional learning, problem-solving and self-regulation skills
Works with Supervisor (and child's support worker, if participant has one) to implement behaviour and learning strategies individualized to the unique needs of each participant and the Care Plan
Adapts activities and services to meet Individual Care Plans for each participant in collaboration with Team Lead and Supervisor
Assists participant with self-administration of medication as required in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and instructions
Administers First Aid following established policies
Communicates daily with families using approved digital tools to share updates on children's growth, development, and any concerns, while encouraging parental input and engagement in programming
Participates in reviewing and providing feedback on activities, services, behavior progress reports and other related matters as requested by the Supervisor
Collaborates with the Supervisor to prepare reports for children transitioning to elementary school
Protects confidentiality and the rights of the person served
Adheres to program-specific schedules for cleaning, inventory of supplies, and other associated maintenance tasks
Works cooperatively, collaboratively, and proactively within the team and position role and boundaries
Attends to children's physical needs, including diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping
Adheres to licensing regulations and reporting requirements
Ensures ratios are maintained in accordance with licensing requirements
Works in ratio as an active team member, directly participating in the delivery of quality, inclusive, and engaging programming
Supports the implementation of nutrition and food safety standards for meal and snack routines
Conducts daily safety checks and maintains health and hygiene standards required for licensed child care
Collects and provides data and statistics according to Agency protocols, including attendance, log books, and timesheets/expenses
Maintains required records
Supports preparation of internal documentation related to care plans, incidents or transitions as directed
Performs other duties as assigned or requested, which may include tasks not listed in this position description but are within the scope of the position, program and/or department

Minimum Qualifications
Must be 19 years of age
Valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate approved by the British Columbia ECE Registry
One (1) year recent experience working with children with a minimum of 20 hours training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition to meet licensing standards working with children 30 months to school age with diverse abilities in a licensed child care setting
Food Safe - Level 1
Demonstrated experience in relationship building and working with diverse family systems
Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR B
