Job Description

Position Summary:

The Educator is responsible for creating and maintaining a dynamic, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that reflects the principles of Allegro Child Care centre it's approaches, frameworks, philosophies and policies. This role involves designing and implementing child-centered, inquiry-based learning experiences, collaborating with colleagues, and building strong relationships with children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Pedagogy:

Design and implement learning experiences that are child-centered, inquiry-based, and project-oriented honouring the rights of the child and inclusive of individual program plans, incorporating the Capable, Confident and Curious: Nova Scotia's Early Learning Curriculum Framework and supportive approaches. Foster and maintain an organized, welcoming environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. Utilize and maintain the environment as the third teacher, ensuring it is rich, inviting, and reflective of children's interests and experiences. Be a play facilitator, observer and peer model while engaged in daily routines and explorations. Implement best practice strategies that promote children's exploration, creativity, critical thinking, social and emotional learning and promoting language. Practices and promotes principles and strategies from Handle with Care and Circle of Security.

Documentation and Reflection:

Observe and document children's learning experiences, making their thinking and learning visible through visible thinking walls, journey books, board documentation, floor books, Tadpoles etc. Use documentation to reflect on and improve teaching practices and to inform curriculum planning through self-reflection, peer-reflection and with the Visionary Coordinator. Share documentation with children, families, and colleagues to foster a deeper understanding of children's thoughts and learning processes.

Relationships and Collaboration:

Build strong, respectful, and reciprocal relationships with children, families, colleagues and community partners. Engage families in the learning process, maintaining open and ongoing communication. Collaborate with colleagues, Inclusion Support, Visionary Coordinator and Community partners on curriculum planning, individual program plans, projects, and professional development.

Professional Development:

Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education and the Reggio Emilia approach. Engage in reflective practice and continuous improvement of teaching strategies and curriculum. Contribute to a culture of collaboration, inquiry, and professional growth within the centre. Adhere to all licensing requirements set out by the Early Learning and Child Care Regulations of Nova Scotia and policies and procedures of Allegro Child Care Centre as set in the Staff Manual.

Health and Safety:

Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all children in your care. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment. Adhere to all licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and centre policies.

Advocacy and Representation:

To maintain professionalism by adhering to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the AECENS. Stay current with research and best practices in early childhood education Represent Allegro Child Care and it's philosophies while partaking in professional networking or opportunities including facilitation of workshops, publishing works, guest speaker etc.

7. Qualifications:

Maintain a current classification by partaking in a minimum of 30 Professional Development hours over 3 year Have a current valid Criminal Record Vulnerable Sector Check Have a current valid Child Abuse Registry Have a valid First Aid, Emergency CPR-C training Must hold or be working towards a level 2 or 3 classification
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50-$31.56 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
