The Otipemisiwak Metis Government of the Metis Nation within Alberta (MNA) is seeking to hire six (6) full-time Early Childhood Educators to join the Children and Family Services Department and work within the Metawetan Early Learning and Child Care Centre (ELCC). Reporting to the Early Learning and Child Care Centre Manager, the Early Childhood Educators will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate activities and contributing to the overall quality and cultural representation of the program. This role will focus on fostering and maintaining a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes each child's holistic development by supporting their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth, while also ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being. The successful candidates will be compassionate, culturally grounded, and dedicated professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and are ready to make a difference in the lives of Metis children.

Key Responsibilities




Plan and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate activities based on the Metis Early Learning Framework, emergent curriculum, and Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework (FLIGHT). Implement daily and weekly activities in a safe and positive learning environment in accordance with the values of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and the families at the Early Learning and Child Care Centre. Monitor and track classroom dynamics and develop appropriate strategies and tools to support children with diverse learning needs, including providing above-ratio support when required. Maintain clear documentation, reporting, and record keeping. Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating learning space that reflects the diverse needs of children and ensures meaningful Metis cultural representation through appropriate learning materials. Promote the health, safety, and overall welfare of all children by following Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations, Alberta Public Health guidelines, and Otipemisiwak Metis Government specific policies and procedures. Provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for children that fosters and motivates cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Foster and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including families, Elders/Knowledge Keepers, service providers, and community. Participate in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and collaborative planning with the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) team to enhance program quality and support the broader goals of the Children and Family Services Department. Other duties as required or assigned.



Skills & Competencies




Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain a positive, helpful attitude and be empathetic and non-judgmental when assisting Metis families. A proven track record of building collaborative, positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including clients, Elders/Knowledge Keepers, service providers, and community. Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment and communicate and respond calmly in difficult situations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for data tracking and communication. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and allocate time and resources effectively. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to support children with diverse learning needs. Passionate, trustworthy, and empathetic. Passion for early childhood education and child development, with a focus on culturally responsive practices. Political and cultural sensitivity and a strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions. Strong understanding of Metis culture, history, and traditions, with a commitment to culturally relevant programming. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and Metis culture is an asset.



Qualifications




Child Care Certificate (Level 1, 2, or 3) is required. Valid Standard Child Care First Aid & CPR Level B is required. At least two (2) years' experience working in the Child Care field is an asset. Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset. Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 45 pounds is a requirement.



Other Requirements




Position will be based in Edmonton. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required. Some travel within Edmonton is a requirement. Additional less frequent travel throughout Alberta may also occur, with notice. Must have a driver's license and an operational vehicle. Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and a Child Intervention Record Check is required.
