Job purpose
The Early Childhood Educator will provide nurturing care that helps deliver a positive learning experience. The Early Childhood Educator will maintain continuity of instruction by following the directions and lead of the Child Care Manager.
Duties and responsibilities


  • Assist the Child Development Supervisor in the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities to support the children's cognitive, social-emotional, physical and verbal development, according to the philosophy of the Africa Centre Early Learning and Child Care Program
  • Take the lead in the classroom in the event that the Supervisor is absent
  • Participates in lunch, diapering, bathroom and toilet training duties and promotes healthy and independent practices
  • Play interactively with the children at their level, following their lead
  • Supervise the children closely at all times, being aware of the challenges when children are outside of the play rooms, i.e. going to the bathroom, gym or outside
  • Intervene positively with children when their behavior needs to be redirected
  • Model appropriate language and behavior for the children
  • Support and guide the children in following playroom routines i.e. clean up time.
  • Assist in keeping the playroom clean as per Alberta Health Standards for Childcare Facility
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Child Development Supervisor, Program Coordinator, Program Manager

Qualifications
Education and Training

  • Level 1 or 2 Childcare certificate is required
  • Desire to work with young children in a play – oriented, child – focused environment
  • Work well within a team and have a nonjudgmental attitude
  • Physically ability to participate in floor level activities
  • Ability to communicate comfortably with children and adults in English
  • Work experience with young children in a play oriented program is an asset
  • Training in Early Childhood Development and First Aid in childcare are assets
  • Valid Food Safe Certification
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and a current and satisfactory Child Welfare Intervention Record Check

This is a part-time position that requires 20 hours to a maximum of 30 hours per week.
