Job Summary



The Early Childhood Educator assistant working at Little Cubs Learning Centre will play an integral role in supporting the lead educator in planning, organizing, and implementing programs for children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years of age. The assistant will understand the importance of inclusiveness and collaboration and will adapt to the Nordic Learning Style. The assistant will implement the Finnish curriculum within their classroom - training will be provided.

$19.20-$21.50/hr

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:



CHILD CARE PROGRAMMING RESPONSIBILITIES



Implement age-appropriate activities alongside the lead educator based on the How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for Early Years (HDLH). Present a safe, clean and visually appealing environment in accordance with Ministry of Education regulations and the child care policies and procedures, including areas for songs, stories, creative art, circle/gathering time activities, gross motor activities, dramatic play, sensory and science. Implement activities as outlined in the Finnish curriculum. Encourage children to problem solve, play cooperatively, share, learn and participate in activities in the program. Supervise children to always ensure their safety and well-being. Support and care for the holistic needs of all children in the program i.e., toileting, proper hygiene for children, head lice check etc. Encourage parents/caregivers' involvement and engagement. Encourage children's independence during mealtime, promote fun and positive communications during mealtimes, in a family style setting. Utilize technology to enhance learning experiences. Maintaining confidentiality and commitment to children and parents. Ability to follow Little Cubs policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner. Ensure classrooms are cleaned through the day and at the end of every shift and garbage is thrown in the bins. Ensure toys are disinfected and cleaned daily and weekly. Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Qualifications



Experience working in a childcare setting. Previous experience working with children aged 18 months to 12 years & a passion for working with them. Strong interpersonal, communication skills, and leadership skills. Up to date Record of Immunization (As per requirements of the local Ministry of Health). Current Standard First Aid & CPR certification. Current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certified. Ability to adapt to changes. Energetic, positive, dependable, flexible, and hard working.

Knowledge/Skills and other Requirements



Functional judgement and decision-making skills concerning child guidance and behaviour management. Familiar with the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA). Knowledge and experience implementing How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for Early Years (HDLH) is an asset. Computer skills to upload documentation and maintain records.

Pay: $19.20-$21.50 per year
