Position Summary



The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) supports ECE staff in providing care and programming for children aged 30 months to school age with diverse abilities, while ensuring a safe and supportive environment. This role emphasizes building positive relationships and serving as a role model for program participants. The ECEA assists with group activities and supports the delivery of engaging, outcomes-focused programming developed by senior staff, using a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety, empowerment, choice, and skill development. The ECEA upholds the Agency's values in daily practice, adheres to relevant policies and procedures and follows the Agency Code of Ethics to guide professional conduct. The ECEA contributes to program goals and positive outcomes for participants.

20 hours/week

Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 11:00am

Key Duties and Responsibilities



Assists in monitoring children during indoor and outdoor activities and rest periods Assists in organizing and implementing creative, intentional, and developmentally appropriate activities and experiences using modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing techniques. Under close supervision, conducts activities with children on an individual and group basis to promote the development of physical, cognitive, emotional, and social skills. Utilizes a learning theory approach (visual, verbal, and tactile/experiential) when interacting with participants Supports the implementation of positive behaviour guidance strategies aligned with the Early Childhood Behaviour Guidance Framework Follows trauma-informed approaches that prioritize safety, empowerment, and choice, and supports emotional regulation in children Demonstrates respect for and inclusion of diverse cultural backgrounds, languages, family structures, and abilities Engages with children and families in ways that reflect cultural sensitivity and awareness of diverse traditions, values, and lived experiences Adheres to CARF accreditation standards and the Agency's policies and procedures, while aligning practice with both the Agency's goals and the guiding principles outlined in the Model for Success Ensures the safety and well-being of participants, setting clear boundaries, communicating expectations, modeling respectful behavior and maintaining a structured and secure environment Builds positive relationships and maintains respectful, professional communication with families about participants' daily experiences Works cooperatively, collaboratively, and proactively within the team and position role and boundaries Supports implementation of activities aligned with Individual Care Plans for each participant under the Supervisor direction/guidance Works with Supervisor (and child's support worker, if participant has one) to implement behaviour and learning strategies individualized to the unique needs of each participant and the Care Plan Supports individual children during transitions between activities or routines as directed Encourages children to engage in group activities by modelling participation and enthusiasm Follows daily activity plans developed by ECEs or the Supervisor and prepares materials as instructed Communicates daily observations to ECEs or Supervisor to support documentation of children's development and behaviour Redirects family questions or concerns to the ECE or Supervisor, as appropriate Participates actively and reflectively in clinical supervision with the Supervisor, accepting feedback to inform professional practice Attends and participates actively in staff meetings contributing ideas, observations and initiative Performs other duties as assigned or requested, which may include tasks not listed in this position description but are within the scope of the position, program, and/or department Maintains awareness of child-to-staff ratios and immediately informs Supervisor of any concerns Works in ratio as an active team member, directly participating in the delivery of quality, inclusive, and engaging programming Attends to the children's physical needs including diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping Adheres to licensing regulations and reporting requirements Maintains required records and reports problems or concerns to Supervisor Supports the set-up and clean-up of meals and snacks in accordance with food safety practices Follows program-specific cleaning and sanitation routines and supports inventory checks as requested Participates in maintaining health and hygiene routines Assists in recording data per Agency documentation protocols for attendance, log books and timesheets/expenses Gathers materials for reports or parent updates, as requested Performs other duties as assigned or requested, which may include tasks not listed in this position description but are within the scope of the position, program and/or department

Minimum Qualifications



Must be 19 years of age Grade 12, plus enrolment in Early Childhood Education Certificate Program Minimum 20 hours training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition to meet licensing standards 6 months' recent experience working with children with diverse abilities in a licensed child care setting Food Safe - Level 1 Demonstrated experience in relationship building and working with diverse family systems Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR B
