Position Summary

The Early Childcare Assistant (ECA) Instructor is responsible for teaching students the knowledge, skills, and practical training needed to support children's growth and development in childcare and early learning environments. The instructor will provide both theoretical instruction and hands-on learning to prepare learners for careers in childcare centers, preschools, and early learning programs.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver curriculum in child development, health & safety, and childcare practices. Teach students about planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Provide instruction in nutrition, hygiene, and maintaining safe and inclusive learning environments. Train learners in observation, documentation, and reporting of child development progress. Incorporate role-playing, case studies, and supervised simulations of childcare settings. Guide students in effective communication with children, parents, and childcare professionals. Mentor learners on professionalism, ethics, and compliance with Ontario childcare regulations and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA). Assess student learning through assignments, projects, and practical evaluations. Stay current with early childhood education practices, trends, and legislation.

Qualifications

Diploma, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. Registration with the

College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)

is a strong asset. Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in early childhood education or childcare. Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience (preferred). Strong knowledge of child development theories and practices. Ability to create and maintain safe, inclusive, and engaging childcare environments. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills. Proficiency in observation, documentation, and reporting techniques.
