Our Central Division is looking for a Finish Roller Operator to join its paving crew for the 2023 Construction Season!

Key Responsibilities

  • Capable of operating multiple pieces of equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on the equipment
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill the equipment when necessary
  • Understand the job site and what needs to get done
  • Maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings while operating equipment
  • Use equipment to pack down sand/gravel/dirt by driving the equipment over a particular area until it is packed down to grade
  • Communicate when the ground needs to be built up/down to ensure grades are met
  • Load, unload and move construction materials around the worksite.
  • Manually remove large rocks and debris turned up by graders and other heavy equipment, ensuring all revealed rocks and debris are clear before equipment makes further passes.
  • Execute traffic control plans by placing, removing, covering and uncovering traffic control signs, cones, barricades and other traffic control devices. Direct traffic when necessary.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Assist in the installation of culverts to drain water and/or use a generator and pump to remove rain water from ditches on the construction site.
  • Using a rake or shovel, spread gravel and other construction materials over road surfaces, building or decreasing slopes or leveling asphalt to fine grade specifications.
  • Shoveling test holes by locating markers/flags and quarantine any exposed pipes. Mark test holes with stakes, paint or ribbon.
  • Ensure worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble and garbage.
  • Shovel asphalt mix into areas inaccessible to paving machines, and compact mix using rakes and hand tampers
  • Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steer when needed.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company\xe2\x80\x99s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications | Requirements
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
  • 2 to 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience operating various Rollers is an asset.
  • Knowledge road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Cement stabilizing experience is an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Out of town travel throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories is required and may consist of remote locations, accommodations and Live Out Allowance may be applicable.
  • Schedule of Monday - Saturday up to 14 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company\'s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
