The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient and timely delivery of chicks, eggs, and supplies to and from the hatchery and industry partners locations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the health and quality of the chicks during transit, while adhering to all transportation and biosecurity and animal welfare protocols.
Responsibilities
Safely operate company trucks to transport live chicks, eggs, and hatchery-related goods to farms and customers across Ontario.
Follow all Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations, company safety standards, and biosecurity protocols.
Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness and safety compliance.
Ensure proper handling and care of live chicks and eggs during loading, transport, and unloading, minimizing stress and injury.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of trucks to prevent contamination and support disease control efforts.
Keep accurate delivery logs and documentation, including daily driver logs via ELD in compliance with Hours-of-Service regulations.
Communicate effectively with hatchery staff, Transportation Manager, and farm contacts regarding delivery schedules and special instructions.
Report any vehicle issues, delays, or incidents promptly to the Transportation Manager.
Work with a team for loading and unloading of Chicks and related materials.
Qualifications
Valid Ontario DZ Class Driver's License with a clean abstract.
Must have proof of 3 years MINIMUM experience and proof of commercial insurance coverage
Previous experience in agricultural or livestock transport preferred, especially with live poultry.
Understanding of biosecurity protocols and animal welfare practices.
Ability to lift and handle items up to 50 lbs.
Strong time-management and communication skills.
Must be reliable, punctual, and comfortable working early mornings and flexible hours.
Work Environment:
Exposure to dust, noise, feathers, and live animals
Warm and humid or cool environments depending on the hatchery and farms section
Strict biosecurity and hygiene standards (e.g., uniform changes, disinfectant use)
