Job Description

The DTC Navigator will provide personalized, one-on-one support to Atlantic Canadians with disabilities and their families, helping them navigate the process of applying and qualifying for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC). This position is critical to removing barriers to the DTC application process and ensuring equitable access for all clients, especially those from marginalized communities. The navigator will assist with form completion, facilitate referrals to medical professionals when required, and provide community outreach through drop-in sessions and presentations. This role involves maintaining accurate and confidential records, developing partnerships with healthcare professionals, and ensuring resources are accessible and up-to-date for clients.

Key Responsibilities

:

Client Navigation & Support

: Provide direct one-on-one support to clients throughout the DTC application process, including explaining the requirements of Form T2201 and assisting with Part A application completion Refer clients to appropriate medical professionals for Part B of Form T2201, ensuring individuals without family doctors are connected to healthcare providers in their province. Ensure accessibility, language needs, and other client-specific requirements are met consistently. Maintain secure, confidential, and accurate records for each client.

Partnership Development

: Establish and maintain strong partnerships with medical practitioners in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, ensuring they are available to complete Part B of Form T2201. Collaborate with existing partners, including Independent Living Centers, and inclusion organizations across the Atlantic provinces. Build new relationships with community leaders to extend support to underrepresented communities, including 2SLGBTQI+, Black, Indigenous, and people of colour.

Community Outreach & Engagement

: Organize and lead informational and drop-in sessions on the DTC for community organizations and their clients. Leverage current partnerships and develop new ones to reach Atlantic Canadians, particularly those furthest away from support. Provide accurate and accessible resources to clients, ensuring all materials are easy to understand and relevant to their needs.

Data Collection & Reporting

: Track and report on client progress, including DTC application outcomes and qualitative feedback from clients. Collect feedback through formal and informal means, including surveys, conversations, and testimonials, to assess service satisfaction and areas for improvement.

Qualifications

:

Strong understanding of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) process, including Form T2201. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and an understanding of their needs. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities, including marginalized and underrepresented groups. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and accessible manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. Experience in case management, record keeping, and maintaining secure client data. Proficiency in using digital communication tools (email, phone, virtual meeting platforms). Flexibility to travel within Atlantic Canada when necessary.
