Since 1975, The Mustard Seed Street Church (MSSC) has been fighting hunger while restoring Faith for families and individuals living in poverty, as well as the working poor, throughout the Capital Regional District. We are a Christian community offering a continuum of care that operates the Hospitality Centre for relationship building and advocacy, the Food Security Distribution Centre, Vancouver Island’s largest, the Family Centre that supports and empowers families and our addiction recovery program at Hope Farm Healing Centre in Duncan serving all who come to us without discrimination. We also offer church services for those seeking a place to belong and grow spiritually. Through these core programs we assist over 5,000 people each month with the help of more than 50 daily volunteers and many generous financial supporters.
Position Title: Driver -Transportation Associate

Position Summary This is an operations and logistics position within the Food Security Ministry, responsible for the collection, delivery and transportation of product for distribution through The Mustard Seed Street Church. The individual must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with donors and a diverse community of volunteers to ensure the efficient collection, transportation and delivery of product. The Driver- Transportation Associate must possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective operations with our staff and volunteers, specifically the Shipper/Receiver, Warehouse Coordinator, Food Distribution Coordinator, Guest Services Coordinator and Food Security Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities

• Safe and courteous operation of The Mustard Seed Street Church’s vehicles
• Health and Safety – work practices and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment
• Responsible for the well-being and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and donors during pick-ups and deliveries
• Collaborate with Shipping/Receiving and colleagues to ensure efficient collection and distribution of product through established methods

• Help to maintain all equipment used in Transportation, including vehicles, carts, dollies, bins, forklifts, pallet jacks or relevant equipment

• Train, support, supervise and evaluate volunteers with a range of diverse personalities and skills
• Effective communication with Food Security Team, donors, vendors, partner agencies, staff, volunteers and general public

• Attending and participating in all relevant Mustard Seed Street Church meetings and training opportunities available
• Completion of both truck inspection/trip sheets and Route Check-list daily
• Event support for Development team
• Participate in employee and program evaluation process
• Other duties as required

• Required – BC Driver’s license and acceptable abstract Class 1 an asset
• Required –Experience driving 5, 3 & 1 ton trucks; experience driving a Sprinter Van; experience in vehicle inspection and completing inspection sheets
• Required – Current forklift certification with experience completing inspection sheets or obtaining this within 90 days
• Required – Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
• Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, warehousing and shipping/receiving software

• Warehouse experience an asset
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C are asset
• WHIMIS an asset
• Current Food Safe Certificate or a willingness to obtain
• Food Handling Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain
