Loaves and Fishes is responsible for distributing food to those in need within Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island. There are a variety of tasks required daily to be accomplished. Duties include:

This position will involve driving a 5ton truck- picking up empties (bottles) from our bottle donation bins. There are 15-25 stops per run. It is physical work. You drive from one location to the next, and then empty the bin. A lot of stop and go driving with multiple stops.

Working in the warehouse- unloading trucks, moving food around on pallet jacks, washing dirty bins, sorting food (including separating good food from unusable food), building pallets and shrink wrapping them.

Delivering food to our Free Food Markets- using a pallet jack and lift gate to get pallets on and off the trucks. Lifting boxes/bins of food for our volunteers.

NOTE - air brake endorsement is not required. All you need to drive our vehicles is a class 5 drivers license.

Weekend availability is a MUST. The right candidate will regularly be working weekends and a mix of shifts from early in the morning (6am) to late at night (latest about 9pm).

Being familiar with the operation of a 5ton truck, pallet jacks and forklifts are all assets - but not required. We can teach all the necessary skills.

The right candidate needs to be punctual, have a positive attitude and be prepared to integrate into a team environment.

Please note - this is a physical job. You need to be able to lift 50 lbs repetitively. You will be dragging mega bags of bottles and cans. The driving is broken up with LOTS of physical hand loading of trucks. This is NOT a driving only type of job. This position can start immediately.

After a 3 month probationary period we can offer a benefits package (medical and dental). The job comes with 2 weeks paid vacation time, based on a 40 hour work week.
