The National Diabetes Trust is Canada's largest charitable clothing and small household good collection service. With more than 5,000 donations bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.
Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. Hours of Work
This role will work up to 29 hours per week. A consistent schedule will be developed in collaboration with operational needs.
About the Driver Helper Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the driver helper assists drivers in loading and unloading clothing and household items to or from trailers in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
Highlights of the role include:
Help the driver in loading/unloading trailer as required
Act as an ambassador of the company with all employees and customers
Maintain priorities of safety, efficiency, timeliness, and customer service
Obtain and follow clear direction from supervisors/ managers and ensure a high level of effectiveness
Help with the checking of equipment to ensure all safety requirements are met including secure un/loading and all other needs for the safe transportation of goods on a timely basis
Prepare trailer for reloading and assist operations staff as required
Maintain the general appearance and housekeeping of the trailer and dispose of waste in bins provided
Follow all regulations and company policies and procedures
Additional duties as required ensuring the effective function of Operations
About You
Grade 12 Education or equivalent experience
Ability to project a positive professional image to the public
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
Ability to work independently and as team
Ability to work with tight deadlines and under pressure
Health and safety conscious
Ability to react professionally to work-related emergencies
Good physical condition: requirements include:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Climbing up and down stairs (trailers) to secure and unsecure the load as well as to perform checks
Bending and standing with weight
Pulling, pushing and torso twisting movements to transfer materials from trailer onto dolly
Pulling, lifting or flipping materials
