Summary of the Position
The
Driver / Crew Leader
at West Coast Winter Road Maintenance Corporation (West Coast Plow) is a key leadership role responsible for both operating a de-icing truck and supervising a team of salters during winter operations.
Crew Leaders ensure that routes are completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards. They oversee the loading and application of salt and brine, inspect quality of work at each site, and coordinate with the Shift Manager throughout the shift to maintain communication, resolve issues, and support other teams as needed.
Most shifts occur at night -- typically
10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
for de-icing operations, and
10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
for snow removal. Overtime pay is provided for extended hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a company truck for snow and ice control, including salting, de-icing, and limited plowing when assigned.
Crew Supervision: Lead, train, and oversee 1-2 salters assigned to your vehicle. Ensure crew members follow proper safety and operational procedures.
Pre-Shift Preparation:
Confirm all salters are present and on time.
Complete vehicle inspection and pre-trip checklist.
Verify the route binder, timesheets, and property detail sheets are in the vehicle.
Load the truck with the appropriate number of sidewalk salt bags and fill the brine tank.
During Shift:
Follow all property-specific instructions in the route binder.
Record the total amount of brine and salt used.
Assist salters with manual work as needed to complete the route efficiently.
Inspect at least two properties per shift for quality assurance.
Provide real-time updates and progress reports to the Shift Manager.
Support other crews if your assigned route is completed early.
End of Shift:
Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and submitted.
Return truck keys, tools, and unused materials to the yard.
Clean the vehicle and remove all waste and leftover salt bags.
Drain and return the trash pump and secure all equipment in the sea can.
Qualifications
Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 7 may be accepted with experience).
Clean driving record and ability to safely operate trucks under winter conditions.
Proven leadership and communication skills in team environments.
Physically capable of performing manual labor, including lifting 20 kg bags of salt.
Proficient in mobile phone use -- able to make calls, take photos, send messages and photos, and operate mobile applications for communication, documentation, and reporting.
Ability to work overnight shifts in cold, wet, and demanding conditions.
Attention to detail and strong sense of responsibility for safety and quality.
Previous experience in snow removal, landscaping, or construction considered an asset.
Working Conditions
This position involves outdoor work in harsh winter environments and requires both driving and manual tasks. Crew Leaders are expected to lead by example, maintaining safety, professionalism, and teamwork under all conditions.
Compensation
$38.50 per hour
Overtime pay for extended hours

On-call, part-time
Overtime and weekend shifts may be required
