Job Description

United Active Living Inc. is a leader in the development and implementation of programs and services that support residents to "Live Well in Our Community." The Position



As a casual driver your role is to safely drive our community members to events, functions, shopping outings, etc. using our 12 passenger buses or our 6 passenger van. You must be able to interact well with people, be comfortable with assisting residents and have the ability to deal with challenges independently.

The Responsibilities



Driving:

Prior to bus leaving ensure that it has been safety inspected and has enough gas and supplies (food and water if applicable) for the outing; Plan out your route and parking options; Pick up the resident list from reception. Note who is going and if you'll need a wheelchair or if there is someone going with a wheelchair. Get bus/van ready with safety clamps; Check to see if residents are in the lobby, if not ask reception to call their suites Help to load residents on the bus; Secure wheelchairs and walkers; If without another staff member tell the residents where they are going and what will happen when they arrive; After arriving let residents know where and what time they will be picked up; Pick up residents at designated time and place, arrive early if you have not been helping during the outing; Help Residents off the bus as needed and ensure all their belongs are off the bus; Advise nursing of any medical or behaviour concerns; If the bus is going out-of-town there will be another staff or a volunteer; The driver is responsible for keeping the bus clean and well maintained.
Non-Driving duties:

During times when you are not driving you will take the initiative to: Assist during the outing (i.e. seating residents, participating in event, escorting residents, companionship, etc.) Between trips, provide support to other United Departments, such as: Creative Expressions (helping set up or dismantle for events), Studio (supporting residents and companionship), United Minds (supporting residents and companionship), Office Support (photocopying, typing, delivering door-to-door notices, stuffing envelopes,etc.) High Touch cleaning, etc.

The Qualifications



Class 4 Drivers License Good driving record (no more than 4 demerits and no serious driving offences) Ability to pass a criminal record check 5 years of driving experience Positive customer service skills Enjoy being a team player Professional when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues Strong communication skills Ability to act independently, problem solve and take initiative Ability to be flexible in a very dynamic environment, see what needs to be done and step in to help Ability to work days, evenings and weekends
