Job Summary
Omineca is seeking an experienced Drafting / Mechanical Technologist but would also consider a Mechanical Engineer with significant drafting experience.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both field and office work which would include measuring, modeling, and detailing mechanical and structural components from concept through fabrication.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in sawmills, pulp mills, mining operations, or fabrication shop environments is required.
Responsibilities
Attend sites to measure mechanical and structural equipment, assemblies, and layouts.
Develop fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings from field measurements and design data.
Produce 3D models and detailed shop drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusionor equivalent).
Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and installers to ensure accuracy and constructability.
Create structural steel detailing drawings when required.
Maintain organized drawing packages and revision control.
Participate in design reviews, problem-solving, and field fit-up checks.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or related field.
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in mechanical or structural drafting.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, fabrication methods, and field measurement practices.
Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or equivalent).
Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings.
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a hands-on environment.
Strong attention to detail, with excellent spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.
Experience in industrial / heavy construction environments (sawmills, pulp mills, mining, etc.).
Strong computer skills and ability to work within Excel, Adobe Acrobat or Blue Beam, Gmail, etc.
Requirements
Experience with heavy metal fabrication or structural steel detailing.
Familiarity with heavy industrial equipment layouts and retrofit projects.
Knowledge of fabrication and installation workflows.
Field experience in construction, mechanical, or fabrication environments.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
