The Drafting Checker will perform comprehensive reviews and checking of various 2D drawings and deliverables primarily for the piping department. These include PFDs, P&IDs, schematics, single line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, plot plans, and construction drawing. Reporting to the Design
Manager, this individual will also work closely with other drafters, designers, and other disciplines to achieve optimal project outcome. In this role, the checker should be organized, have a sharp eye for detail and be able to communicate clearly and concisely. The individual will also be responsible for ensuring quality service and positive relations with internal and external clients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Checking & Coordination:
Very strong drafting skills including troubleshooting
Receiving and reviewing mark ups and confirming completeness.
Checking the work of the drafting team
Assisting other departments in Federation such as Civil/Structural, Electrical, and Instrumentation with the development and checking of their deliverables when needed
Assisting the 2D Drafting Lead in coordinating large volumes of drafting work
Ability and willingness to approach others within the various disciplines to chase down required information
A very thorough and meticulous approach to ensuring that all department deliverables are complete and compliant to both Federation and client standards and procedures
Display the experience, technical knowledge, and confidence to check all department deliverables. This includes recognizing information which is missing
Assist with the development of drafting standards
Project Management:
Assists in the preparation of a project plan and organizes the assigned work to meet the project schedule and budget
May be required to act as single point of contact for the clients in managing drafting programs and as-builts
Provide input into estimates for prospective client projects
Office Leadership:
Assists the 2D Drafting Lead and the Design Manager
Fill in for the 2D Drafting Lead when the lead is absent
Contribute to a dynamic workplace culture in the office
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff
Display a professional demeanor and encourage the same in the members of the department
Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
Post secondary graduate in either Process Piping Design, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or another equivalent program
10+ years of drafting and checking experience in the oil and gas or related industry: EPCM experience is an asset
Experience working on technical projects
Proficiency in using AutoCAD
Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents
3D modelling experience in Plant3D or CADWorx is an asset
Field or shop experience is an asset
Valid drivers license required

From time to time, travel to client sites or other Federation offices may be required (up to 10%).
