Downtown Ambassadors Manager

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ promotes, cares, and advocates for a vibrant and inclusive downtown where business thrives and people are drawn to work, live, shop and explore. We host events throughout the year and work to beautify our downtown, improve cleanliness, safety, and help make it easier to get around. Our downtown is on Treaty No. 1 territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Metis.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager of Downtown Ambassadors oversees the day-to-day operations of the Ambassador team, ensuring exceptional service delivery to all businesses and members of the public in downtown Winnipeg. This role is responsible for budgeting, scheduling, and team development, striving to exceed expectations and enhance the downtown experience. The manager collaborates with all departments within the BIZ to deliver outstanding programs and events, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and leveraging team skills to achieve optimal results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership and Development:

• Supervise, coach, and mentor Ambassador staff, including the Coordinator and Team Leads; Conduct performance reviews.
• Develop and implement training plans for all members of the Ambassador team.
• Lead and oversee recruitment efforts, including interviewing, hiring and onboarding.
• Manage employee relations issues, document incidents, and escalate major conflicts to the Director of Operations and HR when necessary.

Program Management:

• Create department plans including actionable strategies based on annual and seasonal priorities and projects.
• Develop key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor and analyze measures of success for the Ambassador team and make timely adjustments to ensure targets are met.
• Develop strategies for data collection and maintenance, and ways to ensure the integrity and quality of data.
• Develop and maintain Ambassador resources, such as training manuals and process guides.
• Collaborate with all BIZ departments to enhance the overall effectiveness and impact of initiatives.
• Provide support at events as needed, ensuring Ambassador team engagement and effective service delivery.
• Ensure continuous improvement of programs and services offered.

Administrative Duties:

• Develop and manage the annual budget, approving invoices and keeping the budget on track.
• Oversee payroll management and approval for the Ambassador team.
• Manage scheduling for the Ambassador team.
• Other duties as assigned to support the success of the Ambassador program and organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum three years of experience in supervising and leading teams.
• Customer service experience.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, team building, and leadership skills.
• Organizational and planning skills - must be able to coordinate work and resources with a high degree of independence.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), with the ability to efficiently manage documents, reports, schedules, and communications.
• Knowledge of Downtown Winnipeg is considered an asset.
• Ability to engage and connect with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to work days and some evenings and weekends.
• Able to remain in a standing position over a prolonged period while promoting the BIZ or assisting at events.
• Able to physically move around downtown on assigned routes for the duration of the shift in all weather conditions.
