About this opportunity:
The Staff Materials Engineer will be a recognized subject matter expert in metallurgy with particular emphasis on materials used in downstream refining processes including piping, piping components, process equipment such as vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, instrumentation, and rotating equipment.
The successful candidate in addition to having advanced technical knowledge will enjoy providing corporate technical expertise to large Downstream assets, will have outstanding leadership and communication skills. Ideal candidates will have experience identifying and navigating organizational changes, a keen interest in international trends in engineering and leadership, and above-average emotional intelligence.
The successful candidate will be expected to travel to build personal relationships with the operations teams and may occasional be required to be on-site for troubleshooting, turnarounds and capital project support.

Responsibilities:
Be Downstream Manufacturing\xe2\x80\x99s subject matter expert for metallurgy in refining processes
Set and own Downstream engineering standards
Provide engineering expertise to Downstream operating assets
Provide engineering mentorship to Downstream small and large capital projects
Identify, evaluate and implement new technologies
Identify processes to improve the safety, integrity, and operational efficiency and reliability of Downstream assets
Provide troubleshooting expertise
Provide expertise to incident investigations
Define and improve work methods and procedures
Lead professional networks
Participate in process hazards analyses and safety/equipment failure investigations (in collaboration with H&S and asset teams)
Qualifications:
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Education in B.Eng in materials engineering and/or materials science
Professional Engineer (for example, P.Eng. in Canada)
Minimum 20 years of experience being a metallurgical expert in a combination of engineering contractor and operations, with an emphasis on Downstream operations
Refinery background and experience is required
