Best Theratronics Ltd. is a Canadian company of TeamBest(TM). We became a member of the Best family in May 2008. We manufacture external beam therapy units and self-contained blood irradiators. We have created a new product line of cyclotrons (B14p, B35p and the B70p) for radioisotope production. The team brings with it a diverse range of knowledge from around the world. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Manager, the incumbent will have the following responsibilities:

WORK PERFORMED

? Prepares and calibrates Fricke reference standard dosimeters. Advises customers on requirements for dosimetry laboratory.

? Provides advice to customers for troubleshooting dosimetry problems.

? Performs dosimetry research projects with physicists to improve dosimetry accuracy and to assess new dosimetry systems.

? Certifies central dose rate for ANSI Category I irradiators based on Fricke.

? Irradiates test samples for customers under specified irradiation conditions.

? Provides dosimeters and dosimetry instructions for on-site measurement of central dose rate or dose rate distribution. Provides certification of central dose rate or dose mapping.

? Reviews and up-dates dosimetry procedures.

? Maintains dosimetry laboratory, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment maintenance and calibration to ensure timely service.

? Ensures that all work performed meets the required company safety standards

? Performs other duties related to this level and job

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND ABILITIES

? Normally, Technologist Diploma (3-year) in a science discipline

? Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, normally at least 10 years experience in radiation dosimetry.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

? Must be knowledgeable in the preparation, calibration and analysis of reference and routine dosimeters.

? Must have knowledge of analytical chemical techniques and use of analytical chemical instrumentation.

? Must be able to schedule and perform work with no supervision.

? Must have proven analytical ability to provide reliable and accurate results

? Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in close co-operation with people of widely differing disciplines.

? Must be able to work safely with potentially hazardous materials

RECOMMENDATIONS AND DECISIONS

? Schedules daily work.

? Assures that all required work is performed accurately and on time.

? Assures that all instructions, measurement certificates and reports are accurate.

? Recommends changes in procedures to improve actuary or to simplify operations.

? Errors in dosimetry may result in improper processing of product.

? Errors may result in loss of credibility and good customer relations.

? Must be able to communicate effectively (oral and written)

? Frequent and ongoing communications are required with physicists and customers.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND OTHER DISTINGUISHIING ASPECTS

? Training Provided

? Provides supervision and training to others when required

? Normal chemical laboratory environment with some work with irradiation equipment.

? Some overtime and irregular hours may be required to meet delivery schedules.

? Classes as an Nuclear Energy Worker
