About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Development to cultivate and steward relationships with donors and partners across British Columbia. This role is ideal for a Christian values-driven leader with a heart for ministry, a commitment to social responsibility, and a proven ability to drive philanthropic engagement. The ideal candidate resides in British Columbia and is an engaging, energetic self-starter who relates well to others with sincerity and compassion.

You would be responsible for effectively sharing the work and impact of Focus on the Family Canada to current and potential major donors in British Columbia for the purpose of raising funds, expressing gratitude and demonstrating the impact of our work.

What's the job?

Your responsibilities as the Director of Development will include:

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for British Columbia, aligned with Focus on the Family Canada's mission and values.

Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.

Engage donors through personalized stewardship plans, impact reporting, and meaningful opportunities for involvement.

Identify new opportunities for growth in individual and corporate giving, legacy giving, and grant funding.

Represent Focus on the Family Canada at key events, donor meetings, and community engagements across the province.

Collaborate with the national development team to ensure cohesive fundraising efforts and goal alignment.

Maintain accurate donor records, track performance metrics, and provide regular reports on fundraising activities.

Willing to travel out of town at least 40 percent of the time.

Support the ministry through the execution of the organization's mission, vision and values by developing key donors.

Assist donors with any family-related help they may need from Focus on the Family Canada, and responding in a timely manner to requests from the donor.

Provide regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditures related to activities managed.

Participate in daily devotions, team meetings and organization wide meetings.


About You:

As the ideal candidate, you reside in BC

A deep commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Focus on the Family Canada.

A post-secondary degree in fundraising, marketing, communications or business (as an equivalent, at least five to seven years of relevant experience would be considered)

Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development, preferably within a faith-based organization, it would be considered an asset.

Strong relationship-building skills and a proven track record of securing major gifts and fostering donor engagement.

Mastery of excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to compellingly articulate the impact of our work.

Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities, set goals, and execute development initiatives effectively.

Experience with CRM systems and donor database management.

Willingness to travel throughout British Columbia to meet with donors and represent the organization at events.

CFRE designation or working towards one would be considered an asset.

Ownership of and willingness to use your own vehicle for business travel is required.
